I'm soon upgrading to a GSA12 from my 1150 and the dealer isn't interested in my titanium can, enlarged air-intakes, y-piece or chip, so I'll take them off and put back the original stuff.
I'm no mechanical type so any pitfalls or no-no's?

The can, y-piece and air in-takes don't appear to be a problem (but any tips welcome - e.g there's a reference to a bespoke BMW spanner for the oxygen sensor in the manual CD ) Also, In the manual CD I can't even find a reference to the performance chip at all.

Any body done this who can offer advice?

cheers :beerjug:

OK, I'll get in there first, I know this isn't the 'For Sale' forum but how much do you want for the y-piece and can?

I'm just trying to be helpful, this is the 'Technical' forum after all. I mean, where is he supposed to put the items once they're removed from the bike? They'll just lay around the garage floor causing no end of problems.

So says Rimmer, Third Technician.

:jibber

I'll certainly prefer cash to a swollen toe or bruised shin - but I will have to get them off first, so I'll await a bit of guidance / reassurance. :bounce1

OK, I'll try and be a bit more helpful now.

You have to pull the y-piece section of the exhaust away from the downpipes a little before you can get clear access to the oxygen sensor (which isn't a problem as you're going to be completely removing it anyway). When you do get access, an open ended spanner of the correct size or an adjustable one will do the job of removing it. No special tool is required as far as I know (though I stand to be corrected).

Sorry, but I can't help you with the performance chip as I have a Techlusion R259 box and not a chip.

I'm sure the answer will appear here shortly though.

Good luck

Yes, read the above! Shurley a contradiction in terms???? :thumb

The instructions for fitting the performance chip are HERE

simply reverse them for retro fitting the factory chip.

You need a 22m open ended spanner to get the O2 sensor off; a ring spanner will do it only if you have already uncoupled the wiring for the sensor - there's a plug up under the right side of the tank. If the person who installed the sensor did not use a quality anti-seize its a b*****d to get off. If you do unhook the sensor wiring make a careful note of its routing it runs close to the cat and will melt if not re-routed correctly.
The link to the chip replacement posted above will help. Take it easy tho - if you prise the chip of its PCB with anything more than extreme caution you will feck it and worse may trash your Motronic which will be spendy. Equal care when mounting the original chip the pins are very fragile.
One last thing, the silicon holding the two halves of the Motronic case together can be hard to break, try wedging a hex key in each corner as you break the seal to keep it separated.

This is great thanks a lot : :clap
One more thing though, if I just opt to remove the y-piece and can, will the performance chip/air-intakes cause problems if left on with cat and standard can? :mmmm

Can't vouch for the performance chip but mine has the larger intakes and the fuelling seems to cope OK. Spark plugs still look a nice colour. :thumb

I guess you managed to remove the exhaust OK?

(you know what's coming next don't you?)

No I haven't done it yet Ace, the GSA will be mine on the 1st September so thats my deadline - I'll let you know, still circling the bike and sizing it up. Good reference from the man Snooty :thumb

You need to refer to the set up instructions for the power chip on this. You should have a piece of wire with 3 spade ends inserted into a block in the fuse box - the locations for the spade ends depends on the config you are running. If you refer to the link I gave you it shows you the pictures of the various positions for the wire connector.

Duff standard chip

Everythings been changed and it all went rather smoothly (the oxygen sensor cable doesn't need diconnecting under the tank as the cable will take enough twist (right about how tight the b*gger is though).

However, the standard chip is now duff - ie the petrol pump stays on when the ignition is on (a la advice from motoworks link) so I had to put the performance chip back on.

I'm a bit miffed by this as obviously the chip was sound when the bike went in to be tuned and it hasn't done anything but be stored in the garage since then.

As the wiring connections for this state of tune according to the motoworks advice (again thanks to Snooty) involves 3 spade connectors rather then the two of the can and y-piece combo I can't set it to fuel perfectly (as I only have the one piece of wire fitted by the dealer)- I suppose this will become the dealer's problem at exchange time - it runs and I don't have many miles before d-day.

Thanks for all the help
