Hey Guys.

I picked up the 1150GS a couple of weeks back and I'm very, very chuffed. I'm an ex- 2 x VFR man so I reckon I know what chuffed is all about.

It has the road legal Remus tail and Y piece in place. Its only 6 mths old so I have another 2.5 years before I have to worry about it, but I had a couple of questions you might be able to help with;

- how much extra power (and to what) does the legal Remus and Y piece give a standard 2003 1150? Never ridden a standard one I don't have anything to compare it against.

- when MOT times comes around will it still pass without the collector box and beingy simply straight thru?

- the pipe makes it sounds kinda fruity :D . Its fine as long as I wear ear plugs, but I know its loud if I tear past. Am I a B*W rebel or is that what most people do to their bikes if they want to 'enhance' it?

Comments and reccomendations welcome.

Thanks,
Daz

Welcome to the fold, converted one!

In answer to your questions:

1. Remus + Y-piece does not add significantly to the BHP (2 bhp, p'raps) but does give a much healthier mid-range - stops the engine from feeling 'strangled'. I suspect (but can't prove) that it adds torque from about 2500rpm to about 5000rpm.

2. As long as the can has an 'E' mark, it will pass an MOT. My MOT tester is deaf, so this last remark doesn't apply!

3. I assume you have the Remus Revolution since you say it's road-legal - these do sound fruity, but are not overly loud. Pootling around town in 4th gear they sound fairly quiet, in fact. Common opinion is that they are quieter WITHOUT the baffle.

Enjoy!!:D

Welcme to the nut house. I've the same set up on mine 2002 1150 I find with the baffle in place the note has a higher pitch, which the rider hear's as louder.

My mates recon it sounds like a wet fart when overtaking(maybe to many curries)with the baffle out it gives a deeper note.

I prefer it with the baffle out,but I do always wear ear plugs.

Fuel consumption is about 43mpg where as on o.e. I was getting 50mpg.I suspect this is due to the fruitier sound when opening the throttle wider, something I find myself doing a lot more since fitting the system.I can live with the decrease in mpg as I think 43 is still good.

The engine feels crisper thoughout the rev range, bit more bhp more midrange.

Talked to the guy that does my mot's he recons no prob baffle in or out.
:beerjug: blu.

Thanks Rooster/Blu.

I can stop being so paranoid now. I do like the sound of the pipe - its very fruity on full chatt and I can only ride with ear plugs. I'll check out the baffel :)

you're supposed to sit upright, not lean over to the rear with your head against the silencer :)

still, earplugs are good anyway

Power and torque

Forget 'power' you need to concenterate on torque improvements
this is what 'boots you in the arse when you clog it one'.

As for power gains you probably have as much increase as a Raliegh runabout moped produces.

Its the way the engine responds in the everyday operating mode thats important rather than the look at me on my 5000hp monster

Anything with a cat/con is being strangled some what and just by getting rid of it will produce a more responsive engine.

yep well my cats well gone and good riddens to it.
Still like a little pussy though.:D :D blu
