Can any of you kind people suggest a cure to prevent this happening? Just about to replace SS can with new carbon one & would prefer to prevent the same thing happening. I’m not sure if the pic shows it, but the offending bar has actually scored into the can by a few mil.

I don't know how hot the can gets but what about a self adhesive carbon fibre oblong dot, you know, the tank and bodywork protector things?

Cheers Bub, that may be worth a try but not sure if the sticky will stay stuck due to heat, as you point out.

I’m wondering whether that part of the pannier rack is absolutely necessary...

Must be something about the diameter of Remus cans. I had a similar issue with my Remus rubbing against the inside edge of my Jesse pannier. Easy short term fix was to space out the mounting bracket on the Remus using A2 stainless washers from Screwfix; just keep adding washers until you get the required clearance (you'll probably need a longer bolt). Alternatively you can measure the clearance you want and get somebody with a lathe to turn you a spacer of the required thickness.
Long term fix was to remove the Remus and and fit a stubby. Loved the sound of the Remus but after a 700 mile day you'll have had enough!

Cheers Mac, I’ll go & give it a good coat of looking at in the morning.

By the way, my 700 mile days are done on aeroplanes these days..!

Remus can & GSA pannier rack conflict

You have just bought the wrong Remus

The 1150 GS Remus (which you have just bought) is meant for system plastic panniers

Remus do another specific can for the 1150 GS Adv, with a longer connecting pipe at the engine end, to work with the GS Adv pannier racks

The whole GS Adv Remus exhaust mounts lower and away from touching the racks

Different part number #

Best you can do with that carbon exhaust is to space it out, if you can (pun) .... I couldn't get enough clearance for a permanent solution or fit the correctly designed exhaust for the Adv bike and allot BMW panniers

There are some new Ti ones for a 1150 GS Adv on eBay for £310

This is the one you want - NOTE the subtle change in the length and bend of the entry pipe on this can (BMW chromed exhaust clamp finisher won't fit with this can either)

Cheers Johnny that’s very helpful ta mate. Attempted exchange underway!

Save you some brass too, but you won't get a Carbon one as they only do it in Titanium.............which is stronger anyway as the the carbon ones can get too hot ............and !!!!!

Thanks again JB, looks like I’ll be sticking with the non GSA SS variety then. I’ll try packing it out to avoid further damage from the pannier rack

My bike has this problem also. I have pinpointed the problem to be the Y-piece. After the 2-1 joint, its not the right shape and the exit pipe doesn't exit parallel to the centre line of the bike.
