Remus cans and fuel consumption

I've just fitted a titanium Remus Revolution to my bike. It's still got the dB killer in it but it does seem considerably louder than the OE can. I'm still on my first tank of petrol but it seems to be using more than it did with the original can. I almost always take the time to brim the tank and the bike usually returns 54 mpg and 50 mpg when I thrash it. It's now got c. 3,800 miles on the clock. This current tankful appears to be disappearing at a greater rate than previous ones.

I know that Cone Bolt who doesn't post much on here has noticed the same thing since fitting a full Remus system. Has anyone else fitted just the can and noticed the same thing?

Can't say I've noticed anything similar.....in fact I suspected a slight increase in fuel efficiency. I run with the plug out however.

Me thinks you are getting on the happy stick more now that you can actually hear the motor. I run bung out and get about 42, which was what I got before the remus.

Which is 50 mpg Imperial. I'd considered the fact that I might be riding it harder than before. However, thrashing the mammalian protruberances off it to stay ahead of K1200S, R6 and the odd maniacally ridden VFR previously returned 50 mpg. I don't think I'm riding it any harder now than I was then but.......

It does have a touch of hot rod about it now though....

I think the mpg has gone up since fitting the Remus. The best I've had is 253 miles on the trip with 6 miles on the 'miles to go' thing. I managed to get about 21.5 ltrs in by filling slowly.

....just filled up. 230 miles (50% london commuting), 20.8ltr = 50.3mpg. Not too bad - but am currently riding at an 'IAM' pace

You aren't getting 54 MPG , your BMW miles are 12% shorter than real ones, get the speedo fixed with the 2.87:1 speedo drive and you'll get 44 - 46mpg.

If you have the Y piece and can change the cat code plug as per Steptoe's instructions on a previous thread, don't run without it as the default map is too rich and while it goes like the clappers the fuel usage rises.

A GPS will show you just how far out the stock speedo drive is.

You're quite right, it will but only when travelling in a straight line on level ground. The answer is that the 1200 speedo is pretty damned accurate. It is, of course, a 1200 because we're in the 1200 Technical Forum......

I remember you saying that at the time, Nik.

Why the new can..? It was on ebay screaming at me to buy it. Nearly new, looks like new, £100 less than a new one would have been. Titanium....won't rot in the winter. Much lighter and slimmer. Louder....but still legal. I'm a loud can kind of guy. You might remember that the VFR has a Yoshimura on it.

Just sitting her waiting for a certain Mr Dalziel at John Clark BMW to phone me back to tell me if he's got my new panniers in stock. Must stop spending money on it........nearly need new rubber as well......

I'm having the same problem, everything over here is a dam sight cheaper then the UK so its tempting to get a few things to bring back with me, although they have to fit in the suite case!
