Remus exhaust link extention?

Hi,i have just fitted a Remus revolution carbon exhaust to my 06 1200gs.Just been looking on the touratech site(drooling more like) and noticed that an extra link is required if fitting the standard BMW luggage.Just tried the pannier(vario) and cant see what the problem is,no fouling on the exhaust at all.Is there a reason i should fit this or is just another way of getting £30 out of me?

its to stop the excessive heat from the exhaust melting your panniers
and your numberplate when the plug for race use only is removed

i got one after my numberplate melted it worked with the new plate directs the heat away now
