After 10k on my GSA I thought it was about time to fit some alternative bars as the standard bars were far to uncomfortable to put up with any longer. After trying about 5 sets of different bars I have finally fitted a set of Renthal 609 RC high bend bars.

I sourced some inserts from http://www.fasstco.com/ which were $26 per set, to allow me to fit the standard hand guards. The overall length of the inserts was to long so I cut them in half.

With the first few bars that I tried the problem with the hand guards hitting the screen was still an issue.
With the 609 bend this is not a problem.

I have been out and done a few miles with the new bars and well happy with the difference.

Interesting project and sounds like a solution Ive been thinking about.

I find the standard bars angle back too much and cause my thumbs to ache especially if Im doing a lot of gear shifting or clutch work in town. Its hard to tell in the thread images but it seems you've chosen bars with similar overall height but less backwards angle.

Renthal provide measurements for their bars at http://www.renthal.com/File/product...one=&biketype=&manufacturer=&model=&bikedate=.

Now you have the Beemer GSA bars removed from the bike, could you post their dimensions to allow comparison with the Renthal options.

I used the Renthal guide to make comparisons with the Renthal bars that I tested on the bike ending up with the 609.

I will take measurements of original bars and post up here.

I do have the other half of the inserts spare, they don,t have the knurling but they could be fitted using Araldite. Open to offers.

The Renthals don't look very different to the standard bars, except for a smaller sweep-back angle. Is that it? Looking for a set myself but maybe straighter. The OE bars are quite low rise and when rotated back to he lowest position are ok for me but the sweep puts an uncomfortable pressure on the outside edges of my palms.

Neat solution for the hand guards.

Rotating the bars back makes my thumbs more comfortable but I feel like the bars are sitting in my lap and my back is too bolt upright so seat pressure becomes an issue. If that was the only way to use the bike I'd have sold it long ago.

TBH that riding position is all wrong anyway. Rider leaning forwards shares some body weight between arms, thighs and bum - overall more comfortable and better control of the bike.

The Renthals have a reduced sweep which is what I was looking for and they are significantly better than OEM bars, greatly reducing the pressure on the outside edges of palms.

Reversing the bar clamps helps as this moves the bars 20mm forward. But I'm still going to get some Renthals, maybe check them out at the NEC show.

The issue is that weight falls onto the outside of my hands. That's fine for me and itself not uncomfortable. But unless my wrists are fully ulnar deviated (bent outwards) my thumbs have to reach around a very fat handlebar. This is especially uncomfortable when a lot of clutch use is needed. Moving the bars back and down with the mounts reversed might help but the issue is still too much pull back angle.

Has the OP been able to measure the standard GSA bars? It's all but impossible to do it accurately with them on the bike.

And the standard GS bars, as best I can measure on the bike are:
