just want to know can you use renthal bars on the 1150 with heated grips etc, i want to use a shorter bar than the std set, any probs i will encounter

I fitted renthals to my 1150. You can use the original heated grips as long as you fit the inserts from the ends of your existing bars to allow the electric cable to run inside the grips.
I used tech 7 heated grips (as recommended by MikeO) and used the existing wiring on the bike etc. Made some adaptors, M16 external thread x M8 internal thread and then threaded the ends of bars and loctited the adaptors in place to allow the standard hand guards to be fitted.
You may need some spacers to get the twist grip to clear the bar end weight, I bought a 4 pack of alloy bonnet spacers from eBay for £4 delivered and cut these down to suit.
I used bars with less rake and then used rox risers to bring the bars back to me.
I hope the above makes sense.

If you want to fit shorter bars try a set off a R1150r, seen to remember this mod from a few years back. Just find a set with heated grips, so no messing around with inserts etc, good luck.

I did this and loved them.

Edit
Found your post with bar description so ignore my post.

Hello cbrgaz
What model Renthal bar did you fit to your bike?
I am looking at replacing my bars with something a wee bit wider and with a straighter sweep than standard.
I have worn holes in the palms of my gloves because the bars are bent back too much for me.

I'm thinking about fitting the Touratech bars - did you fit the TT hand guards as well? It looks like the stock ones won't work with the new bend...

Interested in this - anyone got any pics of the options ? (Touratech pic is crap) Rethal vs R1150r ?

Thanks

I'll take some pics of my set up tommorow. I used renthal bars for trial backs that have only around 50mm of rake, but not much rise. So you'll need risers or rox pivot risers to bring the bars back to you.
Using these bars mean you can use the stock handguards too.
