Finally got round to finishing off this little project. Thought I'd post it up here to help anyone else considering it.

I bought the RC High bend as it's pretty close to stock, although my OEM bars are so bent it's difficult to tell... :D I also fitted some fatbar adaptors which give about an 1" of rise.

I wanted to keep the heated grips so I stripped off the old grip rubbers carefully so as not to damage the elements. Traced the wiring back to the space in front of the battery. Disconnected the plugs and used a small screwdriver to take ease the connectors out of the plugs. This allowed me to pull the wiring completely out without cutting anything.

I unwound the elements and rewound them from the outside to the inside. I extended the groove that they sit in across and through the shoulder on the inner edge. On the clutch side this allowed me to pass the cable into the control perch and through with the existing wiring back to it's original location. I didn't want to drill the new bars so glued the heated grip plastic to the bars using impact adhesive. It's rock solid so far but I can always drill and tap it if it does move.

On the throttle side I left a 'U' of cable at the front to allow the throttle to work.

The Barkbusters handguards for the F650 are a specific kit. I emailed them to ask what I'd need to adapt them to the fatbars to which they replied that I'd need to buy a new (fatbar) set. :eek

As they were potentially scrap I thought I'd have a go at adapting them first. I drilled the bar end weights out to 8mm and cut off the shoulder section. Fitted M8 shield anchors into the end of the bars and clamped it up with M8x65mm cap head screws.

Image below is prior to reducing the bar end length.

The bar clamps looked to have plenty of material to open the diameter out, so they were marked and filed out to the correct size.

I'd bought 2 sets of Renthal grips as I needed 2 throttle sides, only to discover that they were too short and wouldn't go over the shoulder at the inner edge of the grip. :blast I ended up fitting 2 BMW throttle grips from Motorworks.

All done.
