Hi all

Whats the general consensus on the ali front wheel, mine is structurally sound but struggles to get a seal on the tubless tyre, I usually just run a hd inner tube, but would prefer to repair the rim if I can.

Is there a way of getting the wheel repaired or do people do the same as me and stick in a tube.

All comments greatly received.

I had an 1100 for over 10 years and never posted a thing about repairs, good old airheads.....would not go back though.

Thanks

Why not sealing, is it all scratched up or is it just a collection of crap on the surface?

Brass rotary wire brush and remove the years of debris from around the seal area and make sure the valve is new and sealing

Are you sure its the rim and not a porous old tyre?

Labour of love.

Method as per DrFakoff, then 500 wet and dry 'wet, then solvol to polish up.

You need to make sure the surface is good to allow the tyre to seal.

The rims/ tires on my R100 GS didnt seal either.
It is all very well saying try this or that but there are two problems - if the suggestion doesnt work the tire deflates rather quickly, and, unless you are carrying a tube and the equipment to fit and inflate it, you are faced with trip on a trailer to somewhere where you can attempt a repair.
Just stick with the HD tube and live happily ever after.
FWIW most pressure can tire sealants will seal any size hole in a tubed tire that can be sealed with a plug on a tubeless, so there is little or no advantage in a tubeless anyway.

Tried all the repair stuff last year when I put on a new tourance, it sealed for a little while without a tube, but pulling out of the garage this spring it just wont seal.

I noticed a new wheel was shocking money, so may have to stick with the tube.

The guy that looked at the wheel with me said it was common for them to go shabby over time, just wanted to know what other folk did.

Cheers all

have you tried pumping up to max allowable pressure and immersing it in a bath of water and just letting it sit there for twenty minutes or so to see where the bubbles might be, perhaps having lots of soap in water to keep those bubbles intact on surface of water if they only pop up now and again. If rim surface is polished up and valve is not leaking could there be a crack somewhere?
