I am planning to buy a well-checked out, mostly cosmetically-damaged 800GS with damaged ANOLOGUE instrumentation (tachometer and speedometer). The plastic covers were broken by a helmet, AND both the tachometer and speedo needles are 'stuck' on the speed and RPM'sat which the accident happened... The digital display seems fully functional.

A replacement tachometer/speedometer costs R8k, (that's 8000 South African rands - a small fortune!) so am keen to see how likely it can be repaired/replaced/other?

I think my options are:

1. using second-hand instruments from either 800GS, 658GS, or 800 'S' or 'R', etc.
2. repairing the existing instruments
3. the 1200GS instrument looks near identical, but unsure if that would work. I know there is usually FINEPRINT on each speedo showing that speedos 'calibration stats' or similar? But there are likely many more 2-nd hand 1200 clocks than 800 clocks.

Does anyone know why the needles 'stick'? Are small gears in the insturments broken/displaced?

The instruments are visibly in excellent condition apart from the fact that both lenses are broken; ie no scratches, scrapes or visible damage whatsoever.

If I can get this sorted, I may have myself a very nice 800GS indeed.

All advice welcomed...

here's hoping...:)

thanks

Chris

Hey Zebra

Welcome to the site. I had a quick search for you from London based companies have not yet found a supplier with the clocks just in KM/Hr. In the UK the clocks have miles/hour in bold with the Km/hour beneath.

Not sure about repairing the clocks or fitting a unit from a 1200, but you could do a swop from a f800ST as well.

See if there are any breaker yards around your area. Bound to have a F 800 series bike somewhere.

Good Luck

Regarding your query,...*bumping to help you* Someone more knowledgable then me (not hard ) will hopefully be along to help you out. :rob
