Hi all,
anyone know of a spare 1150 crank?? Or where I can get mine reground??
Big end journal worn, any help info greatly appreciated,
cheers,

I just gave away a good bottom end as it had no value - not even worth advertising.
Guess your best bet is to get hold of something like that

The part number for the 1150GS crankshaft is the same as the 1100GS etc.
I've a complete crank and rod assembly from a 1998 R1100GS if you're interested.
It's in 100% condition, I've been keeping it as a spare for my R1100GS, but having two as spares is probably a bit excessive!

crank is U/S

just measured the crank and I think it is beyond repair,
too much side play between the con rod and crank,

sooo def need a replacement,
cheers,

Crikey, I've always thought the bottom ends on these bikes were bomb proof. What caused this problem and what miles on bike?

bombproof....yes generally

For the best part they are,
provided the oil is kept topped up!!!!!!

I bought the bike, an 03 1150 rs as a winter hack, knew there was a big problem with the engine.
Last owner had the bike from new it's now done 79K miles, was well serviced always with BMW, but I think she must have not topped it up, the sight glass was a bit dirty, when it started knocking she kept using it. Usually with these cranks if you strip as soon as it starts knocking you will usually get away with just a set of shells, but not this time.

So come on guys get in yer shed & have a root!! PLease!

cheers,

Guess who has the entire contents of an 1100RT engine sat on the bench doing nothing.Everything seems good,so if you come and get it,you can have it for a couple of beer tokens:beerjug:

I'm just south of Chester.

just out of interest what have you measured ? you need axial free play/clearance between the rod and web, what about the bearing surface how much wear is there ? reason i ask is that not so common to have wear of the bearing journal unless you have had a lubrication failure for some reason >

Our very own Vern!! Thankyou.......

The wear is axial so just a regrind would not cure the problem.

Big thanks to Vern who most kindly furnished me with all the bits I need in perfect condition...... what a top bloke!!! Makes a good coffee too!

Vern,
cheers & for the natter, nice to forget about me other problems for an hour or so.

Again thanks,
