Managed to find a route back avoiding the peripherique as well....it was a total bore on way down...2 hours of misery.

Nothing new really.
I bought my 1150GS new in January 2002 and the gearbox paint was crazing by mid 2003.
A claim was put in and the gearbox cases were replaced and the gearbox rebuilt by Leigh at Rainbow.
Kept that bike for another 50k miles and only sold it 2 weeks ago.
No more problems
