Replacement Ignition and Steering Lock

I left my 2013 GS at City Airport last week, hoping the security there woud be enough that it'd be safe but unofortunately I was wrong and someone tried to steal it.

They got the disc lock off by cutting through the front brake disc and broke the steering lock before giving up and leaving it there.

I don't need it fixed urgently, but do want to get it done, and was wondering if there's any route on these bikes to replace the ignition and lock without also needing to buy the immoboliser pieces which add a lot to the cost.

I'll ask my dealer, but suspect that whether it's possible or not they'll just ask me to pay them £1,000+ to replace the lot with new, plus re-code the panniers and top box and replae the seat lock. Is this going to be the only sensible option?

It's not worth going via my insurance; any claim is likely to add more than £2,000 per year to my car insurance for the next few years, plus a fair amount on the bike cover too.
 
Insurance will want to know about “any incident” whether claimed for or not
If you don’t declare then you run the risk of being found out which will properly ruin your day!
Unless you’ve been making lots claims then hike on future costs may not be as bad as you expect

LOl , i declared an incident when we had a flood,
we didn't claim, but replaced the carpets at our expense

Our insurance went up a huge chunk at renewal, , when i queried it, They said "you" told us you had a leak, - i did but i didn't claim

But because i replaced the carpets that was a loss that i wouldn't have had in these eyes

So just remember, anything you say WILL be used against you :D

They ask for “accidents, claims or convictions”, none of which I’ve had.
 
To follow up on this, it's possible to buy just a new ignition coded to my current key, for £200, but my closest dealer in Tunbridge Wells insists that I need to take the bike with me to their site when I order it, which is a problem as it currently has a broken ignition switch...
 
If you do not make a claim and repair the damage yourself it is not a claim or an incident involving a third party insurance it has nothing to do with your insurer.
No different from your bike falling off the sidestand and you replacing a broken clutch lever , you would never inform your insurer of that
If you are not bothered about having a second key just get the ignition lock replaced with a used or new item from Motorworks or similar.
If you are bothered I am almost 100% that a dealer can order a new ignition lock that is matched to the original key code
 
Is it possible that they just need proof of ownership,?
No, they need the V5, my passport, my driving license, a bill showing my address, and the bikem there with me when I place the order.

Battersea didn't need the bike to be there, but after an hour riding over there last week with the V5, passport, driving licence and proof of address they declined to order the part as the V5 was at the address where the bike stays, not the home where I live and pay council tax...

I asked if they could be a bit flexible, and showed them both the original order for the bike from them at that address, and the sales receipt for it, at that addresss, but they wouldn't.

The new ignition lock and housing can be coded to the existing key, and is £200, it's the ordering it which is proving difficult.

I've now got the brake disk to fit to replace the one that was cut, and once that's installed the bike is rideble so I'll hopefully be able to get it sorted and then sold.
