Replacing a ball joint gator easy hard ?

Just noticed a split in my front ball joint gator,lucky motorworks does a replacement is it easy or a pain to get off looks very accessible ?
The joint itself is fine looks clean & recent,the previous owner was meticulous advice apriciated

You'll have to find a gaiter first - BMW don't list it as a separate part.

If you do a search on here I believe there are some compatible after-market ones identified...

Probably very tight and installed using loctite. Gonna need a big socket and a breaker bar to undo it.

Motorworks does one £9.50 so no worries there,just wanted to know if shock needs to come off or can I just unbolt it & simply drop the arm down ?

No I only need the top nut off don't need to replace the whole thing

I'd imagine it's the same as the 1150 - remove the protective cap from the top nut, then use a ring spanner on the nut and an Allen key on the stud - not a big deal.

Ok so no shock off either then ? cool,only asked cos didn't want to do it then find out it's the wrong way.

Get the nut to 80-100 degrees C otherwise the thread lock will make life very difficult.

I used head then a breaker bar on the nut. Putting it back use the Allen key until the taper starts to grip then switch to big torque wrench.

Loctite needs approx 120-140C to go soft

Just undo the nut. No need to warm it up. Crack the nut with the bike on the side stand.

Once the nut is off the ball joint will drop out because it is not a taper. Place the centre stand on 2" thick timber to give more clearance under the front wheel for the ball joint to drop low enough to replace the rubber.

Iv got info I needed just wondered how much or not needed to come off bike to get to it,unlike the swing arm gator I recently done whole lot off to do it
