I would like to replace my BMW standard fog lights on my 2010 GSA with some led spotlights, will this cause any problems to the canbus system? Is it a matter if just unplugging the BMW ones and making up a loom to fit onto the original loom. I Still want to use the same switch etc.

The lights I want to try are Cree 18w rectangle type lights

Can't find a picture of them at the moment but eBay item 400631860492 will show you the lights. Sorry can't do a link on my dam iPhone.

Won't affect the Canbus at all, as I believe the OE lights are switched by simple relays (with proper fuses, too!).

You're going to be popular using those as running lights.

:D

Not planning to use them as running lights, when I ride home from work at about 1am through the lanes it will give me a bit more light.

The next thing is to add daytime running lights. Just small LEDs. Can I wire these up to the sidelight bulb wire or will this cause havoc with the canbus?

If you run them in parallel with the existing incandescent lamp, you shouldn't have any Canbus problems. It might even still detect a blown bulb should the OE lamp fail!
