I'm going to be replacing the right hand switch cluster on my 2005 R12GS Tues/Weds 29-30 August in Liverpool, UK. Since I'm travelling, don't have access to my usual tool kit, and looking for advice from anyone who has done that themselves:

Supplier told me it was a simple plug and play but I don't know if I need to remove the handguard
(which requires a 55mm torx or a large-bladed screwdriver-- which I am not carrying), and what, if any, wires need to be connected.

Any experience or advice -- or a better image than the one above -- appreciated.

Thanks,

zigy

You will need to remove the handgaurd and throttle grip. Tools are Torx and crosshead screwdriver (for the bar clamp). A set of Torx keys are low cost and should have one small enough to remove the back (front) cover on the switch block. Electric connectors have a little tag that has to be lifted with a small flat blade screwdriver.

Loosen the hand guard first.
Loosen and move mirror out of the way
2 small screws hold the back in place
On mine ( serviced in the field by Mark and Tim and Tim whilst riding in North Wales), one of the small screws in side was under a sticker. It was a easy job and I have no engineering skills!

I live on the Wirral, not far if you get stuck! Got all the tools you will need.

Brillaint! nice to know there are other like minded people out there!
