Replacing Speedo on GS1200

Has anyone actually replaced their speedo (for whatever reason) with a used item.

According to the dealers once a speedo unit has been coded for a particular bike it cannot be used on another.

This situation would deem all second hand replacement speedo's useless

The dealer is talking bollox,

I smashed my clocks in a accident,

I replaced mine with a second had set showing the mileage from the donor bike no problem,

after a while the second hand locks screen went blank and I had them changed under warranty with a brand new set and the supplying dealer even set the mileage on the new set " what mileage would you like me to put on there sir"
