Replacing spokes

Hi there from the colonies.
I'm thinking abot replacing my very rusty manky spokes with new sparkly ones. I was going to replace them one at a time to minimise the chance of buckling the rim.
Anyone have any advice or warnings?
 
If it is a tubeless cross spoke best to leave it to someone else.

Normal wheels are a doddle, just have it spinning as you change the spokes so you can check as you go, and do the the next one as far away from the previous as possible, and the opposite side.

Wet weekend here 6'' of rain over the last couple of days and same to come, whicjh explains why I am posting at 11 am on the weekend.
 
I have heard that warning before but am unaware of why they are more difficult. Surely if I do one at a time & make sure the wheel is true at each one it should go ok?

Sounds like the rain over there is putting a few rides on hold.
 
Problem with the cross spoker is that it just doesnt pull back the way it should.

A normal wheel is simple - you just pull the rim over by tightening one spoke and loosening another.

But that simply does not happen on the cross spoker - dont ask me why!

It just takes off on its own, and it seems that no amount of twidddling will bring it back.

The spokes are a pig to get out too - you will knock the wheel almost apart trying to get them out, so at least you will save the wheel builder some time.

BTW what is your most popular place for buying parts etc over there ebay.au?

I've been looking for cheap nissin calipers for an upgrade but not many around. Vic wreckers have plenty though...

I may be getting some adaptors made up if anyone may need any over there.

Have the same problems with the spokes. Am thinking of grinding the gunky part down with a rotary tool and then polishing it. Good idea?

tried that- the best thing i found was emery cloth & wet & dry. There's a big discussion somewhere on Adv rider about what to use. Basically everything is corrosive or caustic so I thought "ah bugger it " & put the look down to 'patina of use'

If you could find a really hard wire brush for a dremel that might be good but the ones I tried were too soft & pretty much just polished the rusty bits. The grinding wheels were a bit OTT on the spokes.

Yes, I thought of the shot blasting route but reckon that it will dull the rim and won't remove the rust/corrosion from the spokes. Will have a go with my dremel. Wish me luck. :)
