Replacing the fuel strip. Tank off or not?

Anyone know if the tank has to come off to replace the fuel strip? My GSA is going in tomorrow to have this done and I have the intercom bits and bobs fixed to the bracket the the back of the tank. I'd rather remove them myself if they need to be removed.

Personally I'd tell you to do the job yourself

Rather remove a poxy intercom etc etc Who the Hell do you think will be working on your bike Trained Monkeys?

Wise up and Give the Mechs some bloody credit would ya!

Oh and one last question what pray are you calling a "Fuel Strip"??

Fuel strip? I would have thought being here as long as you have you would have known but don't despair, the search button is your friend. You really should use it before posting such an obvious question. Would you like to start an oil thread as well?.

Anyway...
I was only trying to save the technicians some time but all I get is a fucking stupid reply to a sensible question.

Anyone care to give a helpful answer?

Sorry But What it came across as was "I don't want the spanner monkeys attacking my stuff!"

Hard as it may be to Believe, But there are some A.R.A. who think like that!

Anyway If it's on the bracket one screw removes and it can be lowered and the tank taken over the top if they have to

Fuel Variable resitance for Fuel gauge??

Fuel strip is not a term I can correlate to on the bike !

And everyone knows 1200's run best on Good quality 20W50 Mineral oils!

Vines SLM had my tank off to do mine and then nicely ziptied all of AutoCom cables that were run under the side panel of the tank to the frame under the tank and did not leave quite enough slack. This meant I had to partially remove the tank to put the cables back where they came from.:mad:
 
does an 1150 have one ?? and do i really need to remove my autocom from under the rear seat to get the tank off to find and check it ???? oh no !!! what if it's broken and i havn't noticed because of my general ignorance and the fact that i dont know what it actually does .:nenau:nenau .

i'm off to order one just in case it's broken :thumb2:thumb2
 
I assume it's the pressure/level sensing strip used in "modern" BMW motorcycle fuel tanks in place of the old float and swing arm type.....:augie
 
Correct!! The old Jap floats are pretty indestructible and never go wrong. Bm have gone with some electronic pressure sensor that works out that the weight on it equates to so much petrol left (or something like that).... In a nut shell, they're incredibly unreliable, and are prone to failing :(
