Looks like there is a way of quickly opening the barrier to me,likely in case of emergency services needing to get on the motorway. Can't see a camera in there.Unless someone can tell me anything different.:comfort

Looks a bit narrow for a barrier-opening and why would it need that thing in the middle (it also looks like there's an armoured power-cable to the right)?

I'm not suggesting that it is an enforcement camera of some kind, it seems a bit too low down for that. :nenau

Enlarging the image makes it look like some kind of scanner, possibly traffic flow count?

Certainly looks like a lense of some kind in the middle, but no sign of any kind of flashlight so I doubt it's a speed camera.

More likely just a counter or traffic obs camera. Could also be French version of ANPR camera, they'll have to start using them like we do eventually.

But of course, it'll never hurt for them to let us all think it's a speed camera so don't expect anyone denying it anytime soon......

these have been known for a number of years, not often used but they are cameras. the swiss used them in the past.

regarding the height i was flashed 2 weeks ago - the photo showed blades of grass in the frame.

The Germans sometimes hide the speed cameras in garbage bins (I did wondered what a garbage bin was doing in the centre reservation of a motorway feeder road!)

I have seen the speed cameras set on a tiny tripod in the grass at the side of the road also, so the cameras can be set pretty well on the ground.

Having just been involved with a bike safe course, the camera unit that was present confirmed that all the latest cameras no longer need a flash. So all you guys & girls who check your mirrors whilst holding your breath waiting for the flash can now sit back and just wait to see if the envelope lands on your doorstep.
