I am trying to reduce a picture to 19k/b without resizing it to much but it seems unless i resize it to 50x50 it does it but i want it atleast 500x500.

I use irfanview re-size the picture but the K/b are still far to high how do i resize the K/b. I have seen pictures of that size which are under 19k/b and are still kept at 500x500?

Anyone help?

I can only really refer you to the Photo posting FAQ .
Once you have resized the physical dimensions eg. 500 x 500 you then can select "Save As" in order to keep your original photo unedited. Alongside the "save box" will appear another box with a quality slider which will reduce the file size as you move it to the left. What Irfanview is rather poor at though is giving you a preview of the resulting quality before you save, or showing what the final file size will be... it's hit and miss.

But be aware... as reduce the file size the quality will degrade.

Without knowing the file type I can't say much... If it's a compressed filetype - gif, jpg, png etc, you should be able to reduce it a lot while still maintaining reasonable clarity. If it's uncompressed - bmp, tif etc, you should consider switching to a compressed filetype instead. Decreasing colour depth can make a big difference to the file size as well.

Good point and Banger, you were asking this question the other day... if you are sticking with bitmaps (.bmp) you will be left with large files even if you reduce the quality.
