Restaurants on the Brittany Ferries Salamanca - Portsmouth - Santander

Last summer we went to Santander - the food in the "sit down and be served" restaurant was really terrible, apart from the poor quality it was so badly cooked ........... never again

and being English we never complained

Yeah. First time not on the Pont Aven. This Salamanca ship is much smaller and the food offerings are nowhere near as good.

Yep, the new boats are in general much worse than the old ones for food and drink.

the Cap Fin was my favourite. If I recall correctly as well as the main restaurant and self serve cafeteria they had hot food, like beef bourguignon, available from the outside bar if the weather was nice.

Agreed . Don’t remember there being a self service restaurant/buffet, just the two sit downs on each side , plus the open bar at the back. Fabulous fast boat and only took about 60 bikes unlike the 200 or so on Pont Aven

They just take it off the bill as it’s stored on your keycard.

Did it in June, both ways so couldn’t opt out on the return. Just a single bad course and a more expensive bottle of wine. In October the £50 saved will buy a few nice bottles of wine in Tesco before the crossing and some ‘picnic’ food for the day at sea.

I think that means you just give them an amount of money in advance, in return for which you get a discount- so for example you buy a £20 “token” and only pay £17.50.

Then you use the token towards your bill.

Food pass or CClub lounge pass? They work differently.

I have never thought they were a good idea. I prefer not being tied into any advance purchase. I might fancy the full restaurant meal or just a single plate from the cafeteria.

Food pass https://www.brittany-ferries.co.uk/information/travel-extras/food-pass - nothing is reserved for you, you just get a small extra amount to spend in the Taberna or restaurant. I guess as you are on the ferry for 2 nights, you will spend more than going on the Pont Aven.

the lounge pass gives you included drinks including wine (no beer) and food as per the hours in the picture above. Just help yourself to whatever is presented.

I'm on the Pont Aven on 23 Sept. It arrives the day before the 5000 Curves rally starts. I am anticipating that most of the bikes on the ferry will be old snotters ridden by geriatrics. I think I might need a breathing apparatus when a mix of 200 Bantams, Vincents and Tiger Cubs all fire up

Having used the Pont Aven I was very disappointed with the flagship Salamanca's offerings. Could only get 3rd rate tapas in the afternoon and then they ran out of Murphys.

I was fit to jump overboard!

Yes with hindsight I did indeed book the wrong ticket but I thought both were approx the same time. Portsmouth is clearly longer

Food does sound shite though. Maybe I’ll fill my top box at the local Tesco with drinks and snacks …..

We book the CC Lounge and there's food available before and as you leave. Usually a limited choice but it's edible and you can have as much as you want.

It closes overnight but from the morning it's open all day on the second day of the voyage. breakfast is nothing to write hoe about but there's croissants and buns and lots of bread and cheese all day.

I’ve used the CC in the past but think for what you get it’s expensive. I tend to sit outside the CC lounge, seats are the same, and enjoy the much better wine and food I brought on board.

Yes, I think I did know that but to be honest at £90 odd per person it’s ludicrously overpriced even for me and I’m not especially price sensitive.

We had access a couple of times when it came with the cabin but I don’t think I’d pay for it.

Bollox to that. As long as brekky is reasonable and I can get something in the evenings I’ll be good. No need for alcohol. Just take some soft drinks and if needs a bottle of wine from will bode me over the 2 evenings…
