Got an 1150GS sans Heated Grips, not normally bothered by them.

However due to the starter switch playing up, I've got the opportunity to fit a used right hand switchgear that's fitted with the HG switch. Everything else works on the switch, so assume that the HG switch also works.

If I buy the Heated Grips and associated wiring, is it a case of just plugging them in to the existing loom or is a whole new loom required. My current loom already has the connector for the HG switch itself to plug in to, so I'm hoping that somewhere on the bike is a connector for the grips themselves.

If not, no problem. If possible I'd like to go ahead as working for a BMW dealership I can get a discount and do it on the cheap.

All help appreciated. :thumb

Hmm... If you don't have them, then it'll be better and cheaper to get the HGs with start-mode (gets warm almost instantly while BM ones take few minutes)(?)

Haven't seen the instrument bar w/o HGs - can you add the swich there where it should be, or you need to put seaparte switch for grip heating somewhere else?

Again, if you do need to add separate switch then the aftermarket ones with start/low/normal-modes sounds better idea... Have seen them around 25-50£ full set (grips+switch+wiring+fuse) on MC shops.

I now have the r/hand switch gear fitted. It's got an integral switch for Heated Grips and it's plugged in to the standard loom beneath the tank, just behind the headstock.

Just need to know if I buy just the heated grips themselves:

1. Can I just plug them in to the existing loom?

2. If so, where are the connectors to do so?

No need for aftermarket switches or grips thanks.

Under the tank.

You have got the correct handlebars I presume - the ones that will take the heated grip wires?

I'll have a look for them.

I'm aware that you're meant to use different bars, anyone know if it's possible to modify non Heated Grip bars? Is it just a case of a hole or similar to allow wiring to pass through?

bars on 1150 should already have holes for grips in them ;)
