Retro fitting OEM LED indicators...

Hi all,

Having managed to remove/smash an indicator i was enquiring after a replacement only to find the OEM LED ones are a tenner cheaper than the filament bulb ones.

Problem - one dealer says they are plug and play... and one says they require a lot of rewiring and a computer update to regulate the voltage.

Has anyone actually retrofitted OEM indicators?

(i'm on a 2009 650 in case it makes a difference)

I have a 2008 f650 was fitted with the bulb indicators (at the time fitted) upgraded to the later LED they fitted them for me whilst servicing and was I beleive just plug and play.

As the bikes have Can-Bus, they should be plug and play.
The electronics should identify the setup.

Weiser led ones are far better imo than the bulb ones. The LED ones you can see in direct sunlight (summer sun) where as people will have trouble seeing what you are doing with standard bulbs (cack!). Get the oem ones 2 pairs are also cheaper from a motorrad dealership, they discount a £10 off usually.

Turns out OEM LED ones are rated at 5w anyway so no power saving but it means canbus doesn't know any different.

And they make bike look cool as f**k!

So, they're 30% cheaper, a lot brighter, look cooler (IMO), are more durable, require no special wiring and last longer... why on earth aren't they fitted as standard?

Mine were £23.46 each x 4. which sounds right with ....................

All four cost me £114. Weighed against the clear lenses and Weiser inserts totalling £109...

Good spot! My bad - though the bulbs are 10W, so at least that's a 50% power saving. That said they're on for such a short time power saving would be negligible.

However it does raise the question of how sensitive is the canbus and how much can we get away with without wiring in our fuse box...

I have (about 20 mins ago) just been quoted £160 fitted including 10% off the parts by a certain main dealer in Hampshire

Think I will do it myself......!

Quick question, what part numbers did you use to get the LED indicators?

MrsDave is wanting to change and looking here there seems to be 3 different numbers given. Ok one is for the rear with extensions but do you really need them.

Any advice welcomed

Why not just give the £100 to riders for health and fit aftermarket indicators for £30?

Flashing lights and an altruistic feeling.

I went for the Weiser inserts and clear lenses.Less then half hour to change the lot.Very bright and with multiple led`s less likely to notice if any fail.

In my case it was the BMW ones from the main Dealer! Part number = the ones as seen on the BMW Motorrad site:

does anybody have any info/experience with this.

Hi Rob,

I heard the same story from one dealer but there is no special fitting required at all. The LED power plugs are matched to the existing bulb ones so it's a straight swap. 10 minutes and you're good to go
