There are no short cuts, as all the posts in this sub-section prove.
For every, “I found insurer / broker XYZ great”, you’ll find “I found XYZ useless but ABC, were great, mate”.
Why? Because everyone is similar and simultaneously very different. You are sixty, which is not an uncommon age on these pages. You are returning to riding a motorcycle after a break of “…. a few years” (whatever that means) whilst others seem to have been riding nonstop since they popped from their mother‘s womb and in all weathers, too. You live in Aylesbury, I live in central London, the next fellow lives in France, the next in Aberdeen, Norwich or Belfast. One bod has a garage like Fort Knox, the next keeps his on the road and has nine points on his licence. One bloke took out his insurance 11 months ago, when XYZ were actively seeking to insure motorcycles; the next bod yesterday, when XYZ had gone off the idea of insuring motorcycles at all. I have three motorcycles, none of which is a GS; you are planning on buying a GS…. New, second hand, model, value, security, additional training (or none), social domestic and pleasure only or including business use, including or excluding a pillion, 1,000 miles a year or 20,000….. all unknown but unique to YOU.
Get on the phone and your computer to contact as many possible insurers as you can find. Dull? Yes but it’s the only way to find something that suits YOU, not the other fellow.
PS Thinking of a GS , for the low BHP….
That is pretty much meaningless. I have a 1600 GT at 160 bhp and 320 kg…. And a Royal Enfield Himalayan at 199 kg and 24 bhp. Both can shove me into the face of an oncoming car at 65 mph with ease.
