Despite what I’ve said about the 1250 engine which IMHO is much improved over the 1200 I just don’t seem to be able to gel with the new bike. It does everything it says on the tin but in a boring way. I return from a ride and there is no grin factor.
So I’m going back to the S1000XR. Pick up a new one next Monday. Loved it before and still don’t know why I changed to the GS.

So AJ (South) will have a pristine 1250 GS TE with full luggage, spots, SOS, lowered chassis with 500miles on the clock ready for sale from next Monday.

Think im with you they (GSA) are a wicked tourer but i think i prefer standard 1200GS WC as i had an early one and it liked to rev, before they changed the engine, and S1000XR which i enjoyed too. You just feel a bit short changed with the super shit headlight and nav bracket on the s1000xr

I’m looking forward to seeing the new XR, as it’s going to have some major revisions, including LED headlights, TFT dash, keyless, and a revised engine. Should be announced later this year. :beerjug:

I love the GS1250 but everyone is individual, may even sample the XS again this year

That statement says to me, it's nothing to do with the bike....

And how do you come to that conclusion oh riding God?. The GS just reconfirmed to me that I prefer in-line 4's or 3's like my Street Triple. GS is a great bike, I just don't gel with it.

Loved my test ride on the S1000XR however I found it gave me too much of a grin factor, and I could see my license floating away in a flash, also as I ride a lot 2 up the GS ticked them boxes so GS it had to be, no regrets, but damn do I love that S1000XR its a monster.

I think he is try to say that it may not suit you but in no way is it boring in the real terms of its usage. I found the XR , for me , to be buzzy and flighty , a good bike but not perhaps a bike that would suit how and where I ride.
Is is always a matter of personal choice , but the 1250 boring … come on that's a bit of a statement after 500 miles , but your view is valid .
PS the dark side is orange lol

Thank you Stick,

Most excellent reply.

I’ve had an 18 month fling with an XR.... I stupidly test rode one, and was instantly seduced by the power... it’s wasnt until after a few thousand miles of riding like a knob everywhere that I realised I missed the old boxer. The XR was very comfy, and really naughty, and it’s that part that turned me off. I couldn’t resist trying to give it the beans everywhere, just couldn’t chill out on it and go for a bimble.. it ended up feeling like a mission every time I got on it for some daft reason.

Now on a 1250GS and feel much more relaxed. I can still have a laugh wringing the throttle (well I will properly once it’s had it’s running in service), but it’s much easier to go into sensible mode and just enjoy the journey.

I’m glad I tried one for a while, but much happier back on a boxer....

Plus oiling that damn chain.... what a chore !!!

I know 3 mates who bought new XRs but all sold them quickly as found the vibes dreadful . I thought BMW had fitted different bar end weights on later models ? It seems some still find an issue with them ? Never ridden one myself

Vibes weren’t bad at all, only noticed at one constant speed. XR is an awesome bike and i loved it without getting into trouble. For me more comfortable than the GS i had before it, only sold it due to family commitments, think best bike i have owned!

They’re certainly quick.

Mucking around in Asturias last year , my H2 SX didn’t have much on the XR, both on full acceleration.

As I said in previous posts, I love the inline 4’s and also the conventional forks. The GS is a fantastic bike, I’ve not knocked in my posts at all, just can’t get excited riding it. Now tip the XR into a corner and wind the power on then that is heaven for me.

Fair comment that’s why we all ride different bikes I’ve owned an Xr but love this 1250 and it has been thrashed rain or shine
