Rev drop off while at stand still?

On the way to work I would come to a stand still at a junction in town, clutch in and in 1st gear ready for the off again. All normal stuff…

But as I stopped with no throttle the revs would still be idling at about 2500 rpm then after about five second would drop to 1100 as if it was about to stall, it wouldn’t and just stay at 1100rpm. It must have been quite noticeable as even the wife commented if all was well? If you happened to pull away again before the rev fall you made a very quick get away if a little disconcerting.

Thinking back on it I’m sure it has happened once before but I just put it down to a new bike and Monday morning paranoia and hasn’t happened since. I’m sure I just put some more oil it as a cure all to all things mechanical.

It is a March 06 1200GS with about 4,000miles on the clock.

Any ideas before a call the dealer?

It should never be idling at 2500 in the first place. 1100 would be normal(ish). Sounds like it's just taking too long to settle down to normal idling speed. It shouldn't stall ayt 1100 rpm

Mine started to do that whilst riding round Derry mid tour a couple of weeks back. Everytime you revved up it wouldn't idle below about 2500rpm for a few seconds. Led to much lurching about and clashing of lids (between me and my passenger that is). Once on the open road it wasn't a problem and after stopping and starting the bike shortly afterwards it stopped doing it and never re-appeared - maybe just the brain gettng a little confused?

At least I’m not going la-la. I guess I’m going to have to let it rip for a short burst on the way home to clear the tiny GS brain, not easy when the whole journey is in a 30mph limit but I’m sure I’ll find an opening along the embankment. Just as well central London has a different Highway Code to the rest of the UK

Typical on the ride home nothing, no glitch, no surge, no drop off revs. Hopefully it wont come back or maybe the 6k service and yet another software update will sort things out.
