Ahhhh. Happened again on Friday on the way to work, the rev counter holds at 2500 then drops to 1100. So a ½ mile up the road I pull over and switched the engine off. Waited a few seconds and switched it back, all good no glitch, smooth progress all the way to work.

Today nothing abnormal, but it dawned on me what or where the problem may well be stemming from. I was in a hurry on both occasions and really didn’t let the engine warm up much. I recon this confuses the bike into a higher idle in an attempt to warm up or in complaint that the user did not let it in do so in the first place.

This maybe a load of rubbish but I’m not sure if I want to test the theory but given time I’m sure I’ll be late again and the colder it get the easier it will be to test.

No - you are advised not to let the engine warm up whilst not moving.

Have you checked the throttle cables are not snagged on anything or one of them come out of its socket. Is the throttle grip turning smoothly? What you describe shouldnt happen.

Try resetting the computer:

Disconnect battery and wait a minute.

Reconnect it.

Turn ignition on.

Open throttle fully, slowly, twice.

Ignition off.
