Hi All

I have just got a 11 plate GSA and took SWMBO out with panniers fitted (we were going shopping) and she complained about the droning of the exhaust against the pannier

has anyone else come across this and have you got a rememdy for it

didn't have the problem on the 09 version so must be the different exhaust note

thanks in advance

Mine is more noisy (to me) when the panniers (LHS anyway) are fitted. The only solution would be to extend the outlet stub (or stubs on mine) to exit behind the case. But I wear ear plugs to combat wind noise so some exhaust rumble isnt an issue.

If its the case rattling on it's frame, wrap some gaffa tape at various points around the pannier frames. If the noise stops you'll need to see where the mounts are not pulling up tight or use some self amalgamating tape to make rubbing sleeves.

i think it was because the panniers were empty because when we took them off to go to the local bmw meeting there was no complaints

Buy some piece of rubber sheeting or foam board and glue it to the inside of the panniers. You don't need to line the entire inside surface, just enough to dampen the vibration which produces the noise. :rob

You can buy sheets of self-adhesive anti-drumming material from car paint/panel suppliers such as Brown Brothers, and specialist Car Audio/ICE shops.

Resurrecting an old thread here but did the noise damping sheeting cure the problem?

Several thousand miles around Spain with the panniers fitted almost deafened me (and yes I wear ear plugs!) It seems to be worse abroad as the panniers deflect the noise to the right which then bounce off the armaco and roadside furniture. It's not so much the noise itself but the frequency range which seems to affect me far more than my wife

I was thinking of getting a piece of oval tubing made to slip over the exhaust outlet so the noise exits beyond the pannier, anyone done it? Did it work?

I already have high tone deafness in one ear earning the Queens shilling so I'd like to avoid it getting worse.

thanks
