I'm off to Spain on the bike, and therefore looking for a ligtweight jacket, that will not prove to be a 'boil in the bag' piece of kit. (i.e hot, sweaty, and not very nice)

having seen the revit air (mech) jacket

http://www.bykebitz.co.uk/acatalog/C26-_Air_Jacket.html

I wondered if anyone had any thoughts, recommendations or alternatives.

Cheers

Picked up a HG Air Jacket last year for the hot summer, made a big difference in town. Having different options to key in with the temp makes riding far more fun, people buy big jacket for winter, why not thin ones for summer.

It still had the protection, but just with lots of little holes. Although if you get stuck in a summer shower you're going to get wet very quickly!

Taint necessarily so. If you buy the waterproof liner that zips inside al la BM kit. Put it in ya tank bag and if it rains, zip it in and hey presto, waterproofness. When the rain stops, pull the liner out and ya cool again.

Rollinsdan and I are looking at the revit stuff. Looks really good and competitive too. Doesn't stop me from looking fat, but it's not a majicians coat!!!!!!

a completely unhelpful reply...

Simpler to buy the cheapest waterproof you can find that goes over the jacket then you don't need to your jacket off or have to fiddle with zips and the like. Works for me and same is true for airflow jeans - you'd look a right prairie hat having to take them off to put the liner in by the side of the road. :)

Thanks for thr responses, I'm probably going to try one of these.

I did wonder about waterproof oversuit, rather than jacket liner. Again due to the getting (nearly) naked at the roadside scenario - which wouldn't be a pretty site.

I was thinking about the mesh jacket for daytime riding, and a (EDZ type) windproof liner for early mornings / cooler days / early evenings. which can easily be removed and stowed when breaking for a coffee.

I've been to France / Italy / Switzerland and melted. So I don't fancy Spain during the middle of the day in leathers (even vented leathers).

So is this type of Mesh jacket OK for UK summer riding? and what's it like at speed - does it flow too much air, so that you suffer from windchill?

Cheers

I've got a similar thing but made by Bering. This deals with the windchill/summer shower issue by including a waterproof rolled in the waistband at the back. More info here.

In last summer's heat it was great :thumb2

I've had the Revit mesh jacket for a couple of years and it is very good. Ridden Spain and France in it during the summer - still get hot in towns but just inzip the front. Good in the UK too. I would put a more substantial back protector in it (foam only supplied) - though this does reduce the air around your back. Don't bother with the liner - waste of time and too expensive (my mate had one thrown in but it's a right faff to get in and out - you just wouldn't bother at the roadside). I take an EDZ windproof thing for underneath for chilly mornings and crossing the Pyrenees! and a two-piece waterproof - helps with any colder and/or wet conditions.
You can also get trousers to match if you really must - very nice!:augie

I have a Venting Machine ( Made of polyamide and Dynatec mesh) ,the jacket was very good went I went to Spain .But at £275:eek: a bit over priced .But Park Lane in Battersea do them Half price ask for Eden.
I used the Klimakomfort jacket ( Gortex and mesh laminate )over teh V.M in the mornings when it was chili .
