RH insurance / ERS

No problem.

I should receive the re-quote from RH on Monday, along with an alternative quote from my colleagues at work.

Still no formal quote from RH and the clock is ticking.

My call to them this morning was, shall we say, frank and to the point.

The latest hiccough, is that I pointed out to them that my no claims bonus records were all to pot. This, they were working to resolve.

Thanks for alerting us, Richard! Shall avoid for now. Btw am I right in thinking that brokers/insurance companies won’t quite more than 2 weeks ahead of renewal date? (Wondering when to begin my ring around for a 2nd June renewal ).

Some will do a month in advance, I think. I guess three weeks prior to renewal would be a normal average

I don’t deal with motor business, thankfully. Nor, with the great unwashed, for which they can truly be thankful.

typically a month ahead on the likes of meerkats - research by Martin Lewis' team has evidenced the optimal time to get a quote is 23 days before renewal. Apparently, the mad algorithm used by underwriters has determined those leaving things to the last minute are much higher risk. Don't apply too early as if you get a quote even earlier, then the price goes up as well, but not as much as leaving it to the last minute.

Snap - it is bad enough having to deal with (American) colleagues, let alone the great unwashed.

My renewal quote is due in early June, for a July renewal...............let's hope I get one

They contacted me in June 22' to say that they could no longer provide cover for my 3 bikes, the oldest being 2004...so I quickly made a move to bemoto, who were £100 cheaper than my previous year with RH..should have checked around sooner !

Phone call one week later from a lady at RH..' I can see that you haven't renewed your insurance with us yet, would you like to do that now ? '.
Said that she wasn't aware of their change in terms.

Certainly not confidence inspiring

I’ll be back on the phone to them again today.

A different senior manager was going to call me yesterday afternoon. She didn’t. This was after, I had again had to repeat some of the information I had already provided (more than once) to them. The lack of call backs, having been promised them, is becoming increasingly tedious.

I might as well go to work there, as at least I’d be able to shout across the office, to find out what was going on.

I'm currently with RH so following this thread with interest.

I did have a bike go missing from my last renewal in January.
Spotted it, pointed it out to them and thought no more about it.
Until now.

Thank you Wapping.

I checked all mine, via AskMID and they all came up ok

Probably time to draw stumps and let your colleagues take over your fleet. At least (as you say), you will be able to shout at them from the same office?

I got my bikes insured with Admiral at a reasonable rate. Forget about RH. No need to have a classic.

I received RH’s quote late on Thursday. I received Miller’s ‘Private clients’ quote late on Friday, after the close of business.

As the policy expired on Sunday and Monday was a holiday, I had no choice but to buy RH’s offer or I would have been uninsured. But, Miller’s offer (from Hiscox) shows a considerable saving on RH’s offer, I do though need to check it through and compare the two policy coverages. On the face of it, from a very quick look, Miller wins.

I have 14 days cooling-off but I don’t intend to let it go down to the wire. I have let RH know.

The fat lady is on the stage but she hasn’t started singing yet.

RH couldn't / wouldn't give an extension in cover due to their ineptitude?

I was losing the will to live by late afternoon Friday.

I knew that the cooing off period was in play, cancelable without penalty, so I let it run.

So I have begun the broker ring around process (oh joy!) for my upcoming renewal.

There are 4 bikes to cover, ranging from the 2020 Goldwing to the 1956 BMW r50.

Existing insurer Bikesure were slow to answer but once I got through the agent was friendly and efficient. She had to run the quote so said she would call me back with it, which she did an hour or so later. The quote of £600 even (incl £80 breakdown/eurorecovery/legal) was not bad, although the insurer remains Markerstudy. I have 10 years NCD and live in a semi-rural area.

Bennett were quick to answer and the agent was very good - both friendly and on the ball. She also had to refer the quote so I should hear from them today/tomorrow.

Carole Nash (insurers until last year) were dire: their automated menu didn't work; the agent took three attempts to spell my name correctly and two to get my date of birth right; they could not retrieve any information about my past record with them (several years!). At this rate I was going to spend the rest of my life on the phone just giving them information so I gave them up as a bad job!

Devitt were quick to answer and the agent was very good also. There were 2 wrinkles: the market value of the Goldwing of £22k (which they reduced to £19.99k in order to quote); and the Hornet Quickshifter which the underwriters didn't recognise/wouldn't cover (so that's gone for a referral). But overall a very competitive quote of £493 including Legal/Eurobreakdown at £80.

So now just to hear back from Bennett!

Having just had a couple of pieces clarified by my colleague at work and the offer quote amended (tweaked / improved) by Hiscox, it looks very much like I’ll be switching across from RH tomorrow.

My multi-vehicle policy with RH was cancelled without penalty at noon on Friday, replaced by a multi-vehicle policy from Hiscox, through my colleagues in the ‘Private clients’ team at work.

Having spoken with the top boss figure at A-Plan, who now own RH, we have parted as friends. They fully understanding the (several) reasons why I have moved. Never burn all your bridges, as you never know quite when you might want to cross back over the same river.
