RH insurance / ERS

typically a month ahead on the likes of meerkats - research by Martin Lewis' team has evidenced the optimal time to get a quote is 23 days before renewal. Apparently, the mad algorithm used by underwriters has determined those leaving things to the last minute are much higher risk. Don't apply too early as if you get a quote even earlier, then the price goes up as well, but not as much as leaving it to the last minute.

Bit late spotting that Wessie , but an interesting study, thanks for posting.

Well, renewal in 3 weeks
Bit of tooing & frooing last week to obtain a renewal invitation (systems issues with the crossover to a new IT platform and one I can empathise with, staff are working hard to help and get the job done)

Like for like renewal with no changes of bike or circumstances, is now £100 less than last year with same terms & conditions
Had a quote from Lynbrook who were similar to the RH 2022 cost (but £100 more now in 2023)
Decisions-who to go with ?

Their IT problems - and staff working harder - have been going on for more than a year. Trust me, I know.

Seems like you don’t fit their customer profile nowadays
My insurance invite has reduced 20% for the forthcoming year

Well I renewed with RH again for the following year

£110 cheaper than last year, for the same bike mix and cover & legal protection

Fairly painless and documents appeared on their portal within the promised 24 hour window

Seems everything is now portal based and the interface looks good & easy to use, plus the paper copies turned up in the post 5 days later

They have migrated their old database from one system to a new portal based one and as always there were a few teething troubles in the process

However I don’t think anything has really changed with the insurance they offer for classic bikes and a modern bike or two, thrown into the mix

Based on your previous recommendation I insured with them (some years ago now!) but have subsequently moved to Bemoto.
They have been good and amenable to removing premium increases when challenged.
The limitation with them is that 6 is the maximum number on that policy.
In the past one could get round that because there is no admin charge for changes to the policy, or increases in the premium.
This year however when I wanted to include my 1957 Velocette Venom I was told that the underwriters wouldn’t insure that bike ( a 500) but they would insure a Viper (a 350)!
And the logic of that is . . . . ???:confused::blast
Had trouble with bemoto last year
They put a claim down as fault and wouldn’t sort with underwriter and left it all to me to sort with days left to run on policy

Just an update

Policy docs turned up and there were 3 omissions or things that needed clarification
* Garaging clause - must garaged all the time and not just between 10pm & 6am (as in previous years with RH) at home address
*Pillion cover - was a bit vague & not specifically specified
* Riding other bikes, not owned by the insured & with owner’s consent, on a 3rd party cover basis - not clearly specified

So a quick call to an experienced call handler who understood the issues and that they used to be standard on previous policies in recent years
He spoke to the underwriters immediately (whilst on hold) and then confirmed they would be added/clarified and reinstated on my policy and emailed confirmation straightaway and included an updated pdf schedule of endorsements and statement of facts with regards to the above 3 items

It seems to have happened with the transfer to the new system & going forward this will be ironed out

Superb service once again from RH - understanding the dialogue and being able to sort it, within 5-10 mins

I've just tried adding a 2005 650 Suzuki V Strom to my policy and they wanted £50.80 to take me up to renewal on the 14/08/26 so around two and a half months.
Also I couldn't understand why I was asked what sort of bike it was, surely their system tells them from the reg number.
I'm going to give Peter James a go a month before renewal, I've joined the VMCC so might get a good deal.
I realise that this thread is a couple of years old but thought an update might help.

How much of the £50 is an admin fee?

How much of the £50 is an admin fee?
I don't think any of it is an admin fee.
Just for the sake of it I put my details in Comparethemarket and the lowest quote was only £89 for a years cover so £50 was definitely steep for the remaining time on my policy.
