Rich can you help 'wine / whistle from system'

Hi Rich,

Need some help, i wired up my new autocom system under my seat of my 08 1200 GSA and plumbbed it into the socket thats under the seat and the autocom unit sits in the try that the tools were in! I get the worst wine / whistle from the unit as if its picking up the revs and gets worst as i aceleorate??? Help is needed as its driving me mad !!!!! I dident get this on the AVI Pro but now i;m useing the Active Rider, i have it wired into a Zumo thats all and i used a proper lead!

Just out of interest, did you but the box of tricks on the proper lead nearest to the Zumo, or nearest to the Autocom?

Hi Womble, just checked where the box is and thats right next to the power socket under the autocom unit itself. Would this make any differance do you think?

It would have been a quick fix if it was the other way around, but unfortunately it seems to have the box in the right place.

Some general thoughts on intercom wiring:

Try to disconnect everything apart from the helmet and the power and run the bike - if there's still a whine, it's something to do with the power connections.

If not, try plugging in one wire one at a time and see which one the problem might be on.

If all the leads that are plugged in make the system sound noisy, check out your earth connections and consider moving them to a better location.

Once you have found a suspect wire, see if you can route it away from electrically noisy components like the plug leads and coils, and see if that helps.

Another thought - try using Aux 1, 2 or 3 and see if that makes a difference. Don't try and use stereo into Aux 4, it won't work very well: don't ask me how I know...

Moved things about, took the bluetooth dongle off as i dont use it, and moved the AUX to 1 instead of 2 so will ride it tommorrow and check it out, thanks for the tips Mick

So pretty much as he has said mate but you will have to be carefull on which AUX socket you plug the Part 1299 or 1314 (not knowing which Zumo connections you are running) as the leads are only designed for the AUX2 socket.

Lead wise is the lead routed under or over the tank on the GS as this could be some of the issues?

The leads run over the top of the tank is this ok? Ill plug it into Aux 2 then if Aux 1 is no good?

Over the tank will be fine as that how I fit them, AUX wise stay clear of the AUX1 socket it is the wrong socket as this is the main phone socket which we do not offer any audio leads for the Zumo's bar the BT dongles
