Hi,four of us (three GS's and an RT) are heading up to South West Scotland for a weekend soon. I'm planning a ride on the Saturday of,maybe 250/300 miles starting and finishing in Portpatrick. Possibly heading up the coast towards Girvan then across towards Sanquhar. Any advice on good roads/veiws/distilleries?
Nothing too muddy 'cos of the RT :mmmm
Cheers,Dave.

Only distillery I know down there is just outside Girvan
Lots of average speed camera's on the Stranraer -Girvan A77

Loads of cracking back roads A714 B7027 have some smaller roads off them:thumb2

There are some fantastic roads around there, best thing is tae look on a map fur the wee wiggly yins:augie:cool:

I've been looking over the maps, but you can't beat a bit of local knowledge:rob
Do Ordnance Survey do maps with symbols for "fantastic Guiness" "good music":guitarist or "barmaid with massive tits"
It's about time they did.:)
Only interested in the biking really.....honest.

portpatrick

from sanquar head south on dumfries road .take leadhills road through mennock pass, on passing pub on right at end of village ,very easy to miss,
take road on right past golf club follow road to t junction then turn right and head along road past darr reservior road end .through durrisdeer pass to end off road.turn left back onto dumfries road to thornhill .on outside off village turn right onto road for st johns town of dalry.then on to new galloway ,follow sign for newtonstewart allong queens way through galloway forest road .after newtonstewart you can either take a75 back towards stanraer or straight over roandabout and take coast road round isle of whithorn, portwilliam, gleluce then back onto a75 ,sandhead then portpatrick.all good surfaced for the most part ride them on my 1200rt regulary. not much plod apart from a75. enjoy.

The nearest distillery would be the Bladnoch ( www.bladnoch.co.uk )

Last time I passed it was mothballed but there has been some activity recently. :thumb2

Privately owned by a very good fellow named Raymond Armstrong and his Bro.

Try the 43%, chill filtered (clear and bright) and non-chill filtered (cloudy like Pernod with water) versions. Quite an eye opener as to what chill filtration does to whisky:(

Thanks for that gents.Looks like we'll be passing there on Sat.
Bit of luck, they'll be open.Buy bottle....wake up Sunday wi' a heid like a tumshie.:)
