RiDE Guide to Europe

As has been mentioned in other posts, here at RiDE we've been putting together touring guides and routes in an increasingly serious way for the past two years. However, we don't have back copies of 2013's RiDE Guide to France, so people who've been trying to get hold of one have been disappointed and we're already almost out of this year's Guide to Spain.

Now we've put out a stand-alone thing called The RiDE Guide to Europe - which is basically the RiDE Guide to France, along with this year's RiDE Guide to Spain, plus other route-based features covering the GrossGlockner, Swiss Alps, Belgium, Luxembourg and other places. Subscribers will have seen the content before, but for those who missed (or lost) their copies of the original supplements, here's a chance to get hold of a glossy copy of the original stories. All the routes, naturally, are supported by downloadable GPX files.

Easy enough to purchase a copy online, but then how does one download the gpx files?

Had a look in a couple of local newsagents but couldn't see a copy so will probably order one online later. The Spanish guide was great and we did a couple of routes when we were in the Picos/Santiago in October.

Ordered mine today, went on the 'Ride' website to check its authenticity, so ordered the guide through their website, seemed easy enough. Planning time for next year bike jollies soon whoo hoo.

Ride's GPX files are all here http://www.ride.co.uk/Routes/ together with links to google maps if you want a quick look at thr route before downloading

Instructions are at the top of the page - most of the rides have mini descriptions such as "Route Napoleon" or "Vosges"

I picked one at random (routes to Lourdes) and it downloaded fine - you get a zip file containing the GPX file. The GPX file opened in my version of Garmin Mapsource. Other (free) viewing software is available if you follow the link to Tyre.

Buellzebub: no idea. That's a Windows warning and I daresay it's trying to help. I don't do IT, though, so can't give you any advice on whether to believe it. If in doubt, big Smiths and Tescos should stock it. But the Bauer does thousands of transactions a day through that website (it's the subscription site for all the UK titles we publish - something like 70 magazines, I think) so I'd like to think it's properly secure...

Should add: you don't actually need to buy the book to get the downloads - they're all free. But it's just a very big list that involves a bit of guesswork without the Guide showing pics and talking about what to expect when you get there. Not that I should really care too much: my job's done when I've finished typing! Though I do care a little bit: if nobody buys it, they'll stop letting me do the trips that I write about! ;-)

I bought a copy in my local Sainsburys supermarket

The info for Spain looked interesting. I was a bit miffed it missed out out Salamanca and Avila as far as I could tell when flicking through, but then it is supposed to be a riding guide, not a city break guide

An interesting point. Trips now for us have to include interesting places to explore. It's no good just doing the roads, she'd die of boredom, I would too now.
