RiDE Guide to Europe

this now qualifies as shit service, no book , lies when i rang up to ask where it was and then no reply to email sent a week later....

no doubt all the usual shit excuses for crap service will be forthcoming in due course:blagblah

Had an email today saying the Ride Guide to Europe is now out of stock and I wount be getting a copy. That's after ordering it nearly a month ago, and being told it was in the post twice. What a mess.

deafening silence from simon w .....not pushing it hard now is he?

I don't think the problems been with Ride mag but with the distributors, I'm pretty sure there'll be harsh words spoken Monday, too late I know :(

it is the distributors at fault; they are shit; Simon on the other hand, is ok.; it's not his fault.

I wonder if a refund will be forthcoming. They seem to get conveniently forgotten in these cases.
i've been offered choose another mag or a refund, there's nothing else I'm interested in so I'll be going for refund

Not silent. Just not been on here since that was posted.

That is shit. I'll ask the MD why this has happened. Clearly, it's been more popular than they thought it would be and order levels have taken them by surprise, but that's no excuse. I will try to find out what's gone wrong and see if I can get it fixed.

Just a quick point, Russ996duke: I don't like your tone. I don't know who you are (or much care) but everyone who's follewed this does know who I am: I'm the bloke on RiDE who wrote the stories. So they know where I am and if they care enough, they can contact me directly. Some have. Others put comments on here. Regardless, when I heard that people had problems, I rattled cages at this end - and many of those problem were solved. Now I've been informed of another problem, I'll do the same thing again. Will I be able to solve it? I don't know, because I ride bikes and write stories about it: I don't have anything to do with the bit of the business that puts copies in shops or in envelopes (I'm not even in the same city, let alone the same office). But I will do my best to sort these problems out for people, because I don't think anyone should get this kind of service from anyone – particularly not the people I write the stories for. There may be a reason that the system has failed and let some people down, there may just be some confusion that can be sorted out. I don't know. I will try to find out – and I'll let people know. With a bit of luck, I might even be able to get them to sort themselves out and resolve the problems. It's not what I'm meant to be doing, but that's what I will do.

What I won't do is hide behind an anonymous internet ID and make snide comments on a public forum. Next time you feel the urge to do so, why not just try contacting me directly instead?

I have contacted our MD about this and he told me the supply with the fulfilment house (the contractor who posts copies to people) ran out last week. Nobody anticipated that it would be so popular – to put it in perspective, it's sold about four times as much as the only other similar one-off mag the company's produced, so it has caught everyone out. They are trying to get more copies, but the problem is that there isn't a system to get stuff out of shops once it goes into them. WH Smiths has a contract to stock it until January, so there will be copies in bigger stores and what the trade calls "travel points" (train stations and airports, basically).

The big issue is: why were some orders being posted out last week, when two guys on here had their orders sat there for a month without theirs being sent. No idea. The suppliers are being asked about that - but I do genuinely expect to hear a lot of flannel rather than any kind of decent explanation. Sorry - but it is so far outside my control I might as well be an ant shouting at a truck. As customers, you have a better chance of getting an answer from them than I do; writers are too far down the food chain to bother them. Still, if I do get an answer worth repeating, I'll pass it on.

Clearly, if they can get more issues to the fulfilment house, then they'll post them out – but frankly I wouldn't hold your breath. The only thing I can suggest is that if they offer you a refund, take it. Email your refund confirmation to the office and I'll see if we have any other touring-type stuff to post you as well, by way of an apology - we did an issue with a big British touring route feature a few months ago, for instance. We don't have any copies of the Europe guide in the office, at all: otherwise, I'd send a couple of copies out from here. At the moment it looks like the only way to get a copy is from Smiths. Sorry.

Could the publisher not offer the whole mag as a paid for pdf download?
Its a really useful supplement to the routes on the web-site which don't have enough description to make looking them up simple. They could be better organised, too - by country, for example instead of by date of publication.

That is shit.or poor timing but very true either way

Just a quick point, Russ996duke: I don't like your tone.tough, just suck it up

feeling is mutual

well done you
unfortunately for you, you are the public face of the company and as such carry the flack, those who were either lying when chased them or just incompetent are happy no doubt for you to have that role, that’s what being in a service industry is all about

Dummy spitting...

Another charming character for the 'Ignore' list...

;)

Aaanyway - finally picked up a copy in our local WH Smiths over the weekend, so there does still appear to be stock available out there. It's a great read, and hopefully most will agree, worth the early hassles involved in getting hold of it.

Hi Simon, I'll be at York and Leeds railway stations tomorrow, I'll try and pick up a copy there, I'll let you know on here if I've been successful, cheers
