ride out to the blue mountains

Sunday was an early start - 6:15 am meet - organised by pete - Aspad.

we headed out along the M2 to a meeting at Richmond BP with some others.

after some coffee and introductions to new GSérs we headed off to Oberon

threre from there south across the mountains on dirt tracks to Mittagong

the whole day trip was 600 kms for me

lots of kangaroos about and excellent views - all withinn a couple of hours of Sydney

out of the 7 bikes there was a 650Dakar,my 1100,an 1150adv,2 1200s and 2 1200adv's.

one of the 1200's had been around Australia in 3 weeks with no problems, by the way

Looks like a great trip. I remember driving out to the blue mountains last year on my holiday and thinking how nice it would be to be on a bike.

Here are the troops all clean - well mostly - at the start and a couple of action shots. Phil (moto) standing and David M givin it some.
All in all a great day out in pretty typical GS country around Sydney.
Good twisty tar to begin with up and over the blue mountains (often very different weather to Sydney) and then tight and very bendy dirt with a generally dry skatey type of surface and in this case "don't even think about it" drop offs. It certainly keeps you focused especially when you encounter the odd 4wd coming at you round a blind hairpin...
The swim in the Wollondilly river is a highlight of this ride - this time the water was warmer than in my backyard pool - about 28C by my guess.
No biffs, no mechnicals, no cockups with the group or navigation - great company.

Looks like great day out in a fantastic place, trail riding in UK is all mud right now.

Not surprised to hear a male bonding swim in the river was the highlight

That 'bum protector thing' on my saddle is my swimmers drying in the sun. They were required as was kinda hot there!

It's cold here and there is a storm coming, it's probably hot and sunny with you.

Just one question, how many wriggly and poisonous beasties did you scare out of that river when you all dived in?

A river like that is one of the few places in oz where there are no beasties to contend with - unless 7 middle aged blokes in their underpants scares you
