Ride The World...Any Takers??

Well thats it in a nut shell folks!..
The plan is open to discussion with like minded person or persons to ride the world over a period of 6 to 9 months. I am thinking either the second half of 2009 or early 2010 for a departure. I would consider taking a pillion (with certain weight restrictions!) and maybe a group of 3 or 4 bikes. At this stage I am prepared to go it alone, but having thought about it maybe numbers would be better.
I havent mentioned my thoughts or Ideas yet as I would much rather start from a blank piece of paper so to speak. If anyone is Interested In chatting in the new year, please feel free to send a personal message if you wish to meet and or discuss.
I am sure its the dream of many..and I would like to turn my dream Into a Reality!!..

Any closer to having a basic plan/dates/route?

I`m not going to ask about cost as I know its impossible to predict what situations " the road" throws at you.

2010 would be more realistic for me.

I too am away now in Russia and then probably off to Romania for the rest of this year but 2010 would be good ... GBP 10K min 20K max ?

Just read your posts and do not want to interfere, but... Have you ever thought of joining an international group?

You may think: No thanx, not for me, but we are not an ordinary Group Touring organisation. We did a world tour in 2007, went to Vladivostok last year and are going to Peking this year.

We all ride as much or as little in a group as we want and travel the way we like (we only stick together when the going gets tough or when we feel like it), meaning that, however all that needs be organised in advance and on tour will be organised, it's not like a ready to roll product.

2010 we'll go overland to Kathmandu and from St. Petersburg to Vladivostok.
In 2011 we'll go from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego.

Heay thanks for the replies. I will try to answer most questions. Firstly, I am very open minded on the route to be taken. I do rather fancy (having been to Marakech last year) heading south and traveling to R.S.A. ( World Cup 2010?) and then across to South America to head north, Its then either fly back from the eastern seaboard, or head East and across back to Europe through Russia etc. To much detail to type now but you get the basic Idea I hope. My Initial thought was to go It alone, I then thought If I could find a light weight pillion this would be better for lots of reasons. The deal for me would be that the pillion just cuts It for fuel/food/digs and bum on seat for any Airfare. I would take care of all costs of moving the bike/breakdowns etc etc. On costs well that I reckon as a minimum 12k upto around 20k, again this depends..pillion?..camping In the week..Hotels at Weekend (cheap rates). I am looking to not do It on a shoe string ie Mondo Enduro..But not to the other extreme needless to say. 2010 would be the year to do It for me, and the plans would need to start being drawn 12 months pre departure. I think a group of say six, mix of bikes and pillions would be good, any bigger and Its a bit to many. Any departure dates would be to plan around weather etc etc In Africa/ rainy seasons etc etc etc. Lots to think about!. I think I may start asking the odd person In Tescos If they fancy jumping on the back and heading off. The trouble Is In most folks lifes Is the time to do It!. I am now free of such Issues for the medium to long term. I would consider also a group tour, depending on costs/routes/ etc. Sorry to be a little vague, but I hope this gives at least a flavour. Anything Is possible, you just need to find like minded people to make It happen. One other point, I do think Its possible to over plan, and I do like the Idea of travelling shall we say In a direction, and not always a set place. Food for thought I hope.

Around the world 20,000 mls. Three months. I took 8 months 40,000 mls never took a tent, route Iran, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Thailand etc. Stayed hotels every stop, didnt save money, booze, girls, casino, flew the bike three times. Total cost £10,000.

I might well be up for that trip, or at least a substantial part of it.

Currently in Australia on a Ride around OZ, aiming to be back back in the UK around May ( ish ) where I am intending to have a month off then set off through Northen Europe,Russia then ?.

May get in contact with you near to time of me getting back.

Thanks for the Interest everyone. I will make a list In the spring and arrange for us to meet up for a chat. I am In Manchester, but we will arrange a time/place as convienient as possible to all when I have the locations of all Interested parties. Good luck with the trip, I'm planning something for a couple of years time when I've managed to save a bit of money. The last couple of years being mostly unemployed have used up the savings, I need to replenish that, the girlfriend needs to end the current contract for her work, we need to get her through her bike test and some experience riding, but we're planning and plotting.
