I’m the Chair of Sheffield Advanced Motorcyclists and the club is currently trying to raise money to help one of our Trainee Observers, Jono Doyle.

He was involved in a serious collision in July and suffered massive injury, including a bleed on the brain. He is currently in the Northern General Hospital In Sheffield and is expected to be there for another 6 months at least.

The extent of his expected recovery is uncertain at this point, but what is certain is that he will have to live from now on with serious disability.

His partner Aoife lives in Chesterfield and is visiting Jono every day.

There is a group of 6 club members who are also visiting regularly to try and support Jono and Aoife as they deal with this nightmare situation.

The club is trying to raise funds via a Just Giving page, to help with current additional expenses, including Aoife’s travel costs, meals etc and expected future expenses which will have to be funded without Jono’s current salary.

Jono is 35, a skilled rider who was involved in a collision and has suffered catastrophic injuries. As one of the donors to the appeal has said:

“It could be any one of us”.

Please follow the link to the Just Giving page that has been set up to help Jono and Aoife.

Any amount you can donate will be very gratefully received. Thank you.

Have you looked at the page? Loads of contributions. I’m sure many on here put their hands in their digital pockets. They just don’t shout about it. JJH

Bit disappointing boys and girls. Loads of views but no one contributed? Could have been any biker in that situation.

I was fine with the initial request but I find this post a little unsavoury. A simple nudge is all you needed to do to refresh the post into the "new posts" list. Berating members here might have the opposite effect you desire.

From my point of view, it’s obviously entirely up to the individual how they choose to respond and no-one needs to justify their decision either way, to anyone.

I posted the appeal here as I felt there might be a sympathetic audience, that’s all (y)

Agreed. Harry needs some catnip apparently

Just seen this .... been out of action for a couple of days with a snotty grotty cold (man flu actually)

If I’ve offended some then I apologise. It could have been worse. I didn’t go full Geldorf. My only motive was to bring attention to a worthwhile cause that was receiving little oxygen.

In my defence what JJH says isn’t strictly true while I understand why he said it. At the time of posting there was little evidence of UKGSER involvement, anonymous or otherwise so if nothing else it’s created some attention. Thank you to those who have put their hands in their pockets, and those who hopefully intend to. At the end of the day this is about a couple who’s lives have been changed forever because of an unfortunate accident. Nothing else is really important.

And by the way catnip makes me worse:D

I stuck a wee video link in my comment and shared the page on my facebook too It was really close to the total but I really do hope it goes way above and beyond that mark to help them out!

The video is something that REALLY helped me through very hard times of loss and dealing with very stressful situations

it's not about likes or schit like that! It may even resonate or be useful with some on here

Good luck to the two of them on a very difficult journey! Kudos for his message via eye tracking! What a Trooper!!!

@Magnet One thing that appears to be "Not Said" can we hope for further improvements?

I was quite cynical and then it struck me! That old phrase! But for the grace of god there go I!

It could have been any one of us!

Dr F - thank you for your donation and the link to the video. I will pass it on to Jono and Aoife.

Re improvements - Jono has been having physio on his face and chest. He has been able to mouth words for some time, but not actually speak them because of his tracheostomy. The intention is that that he will be able to eat and speak. He told us yesterday they thought that might happen by Christmas. It will be absolutely liberating for him. He’s currently still using a tablet with eye-gaze technology to communicate. This is an upgraded version which actually has an Irish accent (although he complained it can’t pronounce ‘Aoife’ properly)!

Beyond that it’s all pretty uncertain and no-one can tell him how much function he might regain below his shoulders.

He’s one of those riders who you would be happy to ride with. If it can happen to him it really could be any of us. It’s given some of our members pause for thought about their own riding.

Fair play to him I guess many would have just given up by now

Here's hoping that he keeps the hard work up and just progresses from this to a better state ... whatever that may be
