HI chaps, anyone had any experience of the rider info display (RID) crashing on an 1150 gs?
The display just freezes and even with the ign key out, it still shows the oil temp, fuel level, and the Time, and gear pos, albiet stopped.the data is all what it froze at.
you have to remove the clock fuse and reinsert and this fixes it till the next time.atb Paul

ive had that happen to me. dont take the clocks off, not necessary. its a case of pulling a fuse out under the seat and putting it back in. its on a thread somewhere in this section as which fuse one pulls out and puts back in.

Why not ring the the RAC?.

?

Have you got HID lights fitted? If you have and the box/gubbin's (tech terms:D) are mounted too close to the rider display (under front instrument cowl) if the lights are on when you start up it can cause a EMS  surge that freezes the RID, just a thought. :thumb2

Thats spot on...

Dave..have you got a needle and thread? my sides are splitting :D:D:D

HI chaps yes i have got a slimline HID dip, the ballast is on the right under the main beam light, exactly the same place as the last 1150gsa i had, that had no probs, but thinking about it, this current HID unit wasnt a wassell special effects unit, and the last gsa was a 50w wassell special.
Maybe the cheapo ballast is spiking the RID.
I wonder if a large capacitor across the HID supply will cure it?
Also the last bike had the headlamp permanently wired with ign , this one isnt, its selectable on and off.interesting.....hmmm

Paul,
That will be the problem (HIDs) been up on here many times so have a go and I'll bet all the probs will disapear. I stuck mine under the beak never had a prob.

There is enough space to fit the offending box under the front of the 1150 tank, one each side of the headstock for a head and dip setup. A slight realignment of the wiring loom is all that is required, no cutting or anything.
