Ridge Monkey - anyone tried one?

I gather they're popular with the fishing brigade for making toasty sandwiches. Anyone tried one, are they worthwhile?

I like the idea of a cheese and ham toasty when camping, makes meals easier, but can they do other things - full roast dinner?

Their dual linked stoves are very good, running two burners off one canister.

The grills (there are several to chose from) are well made but are (perhaps) more suited to being carried in a car, as they are quite chunky.

Beware, they are small, not much bigger than a slice of bread... unless you go for the XXL one.
I have one in the back of the truck, they are great for cooking things that need flipping over, just flip the whole ridge monkey over.

Yes

Brilliant bit of kit

we have one for the camper and regularly use it to cook a full english in or roast spuds or anything you can cram in to it really

They are not that big tho so if getting one ordr the biggest

With RedRick - my partner bought one for our Camper. At first I was a bit bemused as she can easily be lured by the latest Amazon tat/bandwagon. It's been excellent. About 3 years old now and it's all we use for toasties and frying bacon/egg butties in the Van

They are quite light, world be ideal to sit on a small gas stove if on the bike and you fancied a couple of sausages and an egg on the roadside, or you could just stop at a cafe!

Its gonna be dry sarnie without a bit of butter!! Its a balancing act between the world ending and a dry mouth/disappointing sausage&egg sandwich!

I have one and i took it on two wheels

Pro's it cooks both sides -

Cons,

It takes some getting used to, as it's possible to detach the lids when opening

Its not suited to a small stove, it needs something with a large burner/ pan support or a pan support over your stove

Its top heavy and will tip over if not supported when opened (see above)

It can be a lot of faffing about if your traveling light / or on a short trip

other than that its not a bad bit of kit

got one, done toasties, made pasties in it, only drawback is some cookers are a bit fierce and burn off the coatings

We have one in the van which is now very well used. Mostly make toast but also use it to heat up pies, cook sausages, omelettes etc. We’re planning a long trip down to southern Turkey in a few months time and will probably try some more adventurous recipes. Use them in my camper van when off grid.

Got a small one for toasties, both halves are hinged permanently together.

Got a big one with subdivisions, great for frying a brekkie, the hinged lid detaches to make a second frying pan if needed.

Great kit.
