But lots of sloppy slippy stuff the Wiltshire end.

Foxhill to Streatley - 24 miles - back in 53 mins - not bad for a busy bank holiday :)

NERC Bill

And so it begins ....

The NERC Bill was enacted on on 2nd May 2006. RUPPs are now restricted byways. Parts of the Ridgeway in Oxon are a RUPP. I don't know which parts.

B*gger.

TRF are advising care. It might be good to check ...

Thanks for that - I seem to have missed the NERC news :(

I've just spoken with the Oxfordshire Countryside department - all the Ridgeway in Oxfordshire is RUPP, in fact basically anything in Oxfordshire marked "Right of Way" is now a restricted byway.

It looks like I've got some further investigation to do about which bits are now illegal to ride - although a TRF member I've not attended any meetings and got my (definative) maps marked

Watch this space - might need to postpone this day then, unless you are all up for a bit of number plate removal ;)

Oh dear :(

If it looks like a no go, we could always do the Surrey Wombat route, they're still all legal byways.

Start at the usual place - Newlands Corner, Guildford on the Dorking road.

I'll leave it up to you Clive. :thumb

I was up there yesterday - near Goring, great views but it was a little slick after Saturdays rain. There do not seem to be as many ruts this year

I'm good to go anywhere. Could we do Morocco in a weekend? I don't think there are any NERCs out there.

Sorry people - the Ridgeway this Saturday is off :(

Just marked the county border on the map and most of the Ridgeway is now illegal to ride - a number of "feeders" have gone the same way - what is left all looks a bitty mess actually (but my O/S map is a little old).

I expect there will still be illegal "activity" mid-week early in the morning and late at night though

Roy - could you start a fresh thread about the Surrey wombat alternative - thanks :thumb

I'll arrange a Berkshire Byways day later in the summer, taking in what is left of the Ridgeway area once I get time to visit the definative map.

Clive,

I know you're as disappointed as the rest of us. Thx for the big effort to organise it.

It makes me sick to death that this is the case. The sooner this bunch of clapped out, over paid, over sexed, middle class hating, inheritance tax stealing, pension robbing, NHS bungling, convict freebie, bunch of ex.communists get booted out of power, the bleeding better :spitfire

Jeremy, I can't abide people who hold back their true sentiments. Come out of the cupboard and say what you really mean...........!! ;)
