Riding clutchless/crutchless/clueless?

Got to ride 60 odd miles tomo with no clutch, reasonably confident but have a question.....it it possible to to start the bike in gear (1150) on the starter button or will I just be jerked down the road like a rag doll and end up on the tarmac.? I've moved a car in the past that wouldn't start just by turning the key whilst in gear just to get it off the road but what happens on a bike?..same??

If i'm in a position where i need to just get a bit of forward momentum, instead of 'paddling' is it feasable/ok to get that momentum by pressing the starter whilst in gear....will I feck anything up

Personally I would not even think of going 60 miles without a clutch, unless I was morooned somwhere deserted with no traffic or junctions. I guess the only way of getting moving would be to start up in neutral then run alongside, or get pushed, as fast as you can then pop it into gear. If you pop it in gear when stationary it will stall, just like a car.

Start it on the mains stand with the rear wheel clear, knock into gear and with some revs roll off the stand...don't forget the pics

Just a couple of questions.

What is wrong with your clutch?

What route are you planning to ride (types of road etc)?

I have ridden from Dun Daoghaire to Ballynahinch, was a pain when in traffic, but once onto the motorway was no problem..

Was on the Xtra-Raptor and snapped the clutch cable at the lever, managed to bodge it with a jubilee clip and a few tyraps

The short answer is clutch fluid is p*ssing onto the top of the collector box and I'm not confident of fixing it myself. Its' either slave cylinder or the banjo/hose thingy...

Route is mainly the A1 and roundabouts so hopefully once under way, I can merge into traffic with a little care and planning

Plan is/was to start in neutral and paddle to get a little momentum and then snick into gear.....hopefully Just concerned if I'm forced to come to a halt on a slight incline/hill

I do have an offer of help from another tosser and will take him up on it if things don't go well but I'd rather do it under my own steam if I can

I’d take the trailer option if I were you. The slave cylinder went on my 1150 a few years ago meaning that I had a 25 mile ride home with no clutch. Bump started down a hill and then had to negotiate about 6 junctions. I stuck it in 3rd and left it there. Junctions were exciting – basically I had to lug the bike until it almost stalled whilst looking out for traffic then pulling out. Luckily nothing was coming and I made it home. If you stall at a junction you’ll be left with a very heavy bike and no easy way of getting it going again. If you really really want to ride clutchless, I’d plan a route with junctions on hills!

No Clutch

No clutch, no problem, though harder work on a 1200 (because of the higher gearing)

Since your clutch is knackered, the starter will work if you pull in the clutch lever, even though the clutch is still engaged.

Brilliant! This makes life easy.

Standing alongside, switch on ignition, put bike in first, push forward on handlebars (whilst keeping clutch lever pulled)
Push starter button & keep pushing bike at same time.
It fires, run alongside & then jump on.

That's right, just like a pushbike!

Dead simple.

I presume you are a biker & do not need instructions on changing gear.

I seldom use the clutch other than to get off from rest, normally just snicking gears up or down with sympathetic throttle control.
