Allihies again.. but off to Asia soon....
Hi Lads, I have just got back from three months in Malaysia, Thailand and Laos. An unsupported 6350KM ride through three lovely countries. Mainly hot and sticky but great fun. I flew into KL and bought the bike there and after three days of preparation started my ride. The first week was tough as I needed to get used to the heat. Then it was fine, I averaged 100KM a day and did 61 rides. with another 29 days where I rested and maybe did some shorter spins just for the craic.
Nothing booked, no help, no guides just ride, brilliant.
I would heartily recommend only Laos if you are short on time and again, just rent a bike and ride, no need for any help from anyone....
Home again now, 8KG lighter and a bit fitter....

Three great countries to ride and yes I agree Laos would be my pick for a motorcycling adventure. From the north by the border down to the southern border with Cambodia was a great ride with lots of variety.

The above video was specifically put together for cyclists afraid to do route 13 from Luang Prabang to Vientienne. The last time I did Route 13 was 18 years ago when it was fine, now it is a bit of a dirt track and a good starter for anyone who fancies a fairly easy trail bike ride like a 250 in Laos. It is fantastic and beautiful a bit tough on a cycle but easy enough on a 150 or 250.
I did make a video every day I rode, more a video diary for myself than anything else.
