You read about it in the June issue of Bike Magazine....and if you didn't, there's a brief synopsis here....

....now, go and do it for yourself. SWMBO and I are just back from 3 weeks in California and Oregon which included a couple of days of riding the SF Bay Area with Jack and some riding time in Oregon.
Having spoken to Jack about it, I know he'd be willing to show others some of his favourite roads. So, get yourself out to San Francisco, rent a GS or even a Multistrada and before you go I'll put you in touch with Jack who will work something out with you.
The last one down Tunitas Creek Road is a cissy......
(Details about accommodation and bike rental in Eugene, Oregon to follow when their new website is up and running.)
During my 10 year stint in the Bay Area, I learned to ride a bike on the road, mainly on Ca Highway 1.
There is absolutely no other road I have ever travelled which offers dramatic views along with challenging switchbacks, and is longer than your average road too... From Fort Bragg to Los Angeles is over 650miles of beauty, curves to die for and some of the most intersting stops you can imagine...Several times a week, a rode the stretch from Mill Valley to Stinson Beach and beyond, at ridiculous speeds on ridiculous bikes that were not supposed to be capable!
It's the best thing about about the US other than the Weather in Cal.
While you're there, stop at Mendocino, Guallala (Guallala Redwood River Campground is a place to crash...don't even bother with a tent...lay on your back and fall asleep staring at the stars through the funnel of giant redwoods...awesome, I couldn't get enough.
Travelling south from Mendocino, you pass through Bodega Bay, and see where "the Birds" was filmed...it's almost unchanged.
Point Reyes would be the next stop...heards of Elk, Sea Elephants, Wilderbaests (well perhaps not) and awesome beaches await you there.
At Point Reyes Station, head inland for Mt Tamalpais...passing Lucas Valley Ranch where much of Star Wars was conceived and created. The roads around Mt Tam offer high speed curves, switchbacks and more unbeleivable views of the bay. End up in Mill Valley for a coffee, then head to Sausalito for a beer at the Bar with No Name. I Saus, go and have a look at the Bay Model...will give you an idea of where you are in a fascinating manner.
This is where your journey will cross the Golden Gate into San Fran, where you can hang out, or pick up Highway One again and follow it for hundreds of miles twisting your way through Halfmoon Bay, Monterey (have a look at the underwater world thing, and if you can scuba...go rent some gear for the kelp forest!!), Santa Cruz (home of the wet suit) Hurst Castle, Big Sur....the list goes on.
Don't spend too much time in LA...it's shit...keep on heading south to San Diago, and your next stop is Mexico!
While in Northern Cal, don't forget to head for Tahoe, then take H395 (I think) down the east side of the Sierras to Yosemite, don't fprget the Tioga Pass...not to be missed...both spots are unbelievably beautiful and I found Yos to be an almost religuos experience! (did I really say that). Both Tahoe and Yosemite are 3 hr drive from San Francisco, Death Valley is pnly a few hours away. Of course you'll be traveling thru wine country...Nappa and Sonoma...need I say more. Spend most of your time in Northern Cali, So Cal is pretty crappy unless you like desert and smog and wannabe actors!
Have fun and send me a postcard, as I was illegal, I can't go back for another 5 years!
