riding with single seat

hi guys,
i want to ride with just the front part of my seat 1150 gs 2003 so i can carry my lap top and case on the flat part under the rear part of the seat.
the problem is it does not secure just sits on the frame is this normal? i quess my weight holds it in place???

It should simply lock in place.
The rear toolbox lid has a locking insert in amongst the tools that slides into place in the plastic lid so you don't lose all the tools.

That sounds very strange, my 1150 seat definitely clips in place. Maybe the catch or the cable need oiling.

In case you haven't noticed, there's a little plastic clip in the toolkit that you can use to hold the toolbox lid in place

Are you getting the front of the seat in the right place? It may be that you are setting the seat too far to the rear so the clips are in the wrong place for the latch, which is at the rear of the seat.
