Bike (2010GSA) has been stood for a good couple of weeks with not being started. I ran it last night and was aware of what I consider to be a loud "tappet" noise coming from the right hand cylinder head. Noise gets very loud from 2k revs. I ran the bike for 10-15mins until good operating temp but still the noise remains. I had no issues or noises from the bike before it was stood, so I'm thinking something has stuck. Any pointers? (I serviced the bike at 19K miles and it's done another 800miles no issues)

A call to MikeyBoy would be my first move. It might be a very simple fix. But a flapping cam chain can do a lot of damage. Don't run the engine until you've had a proper look.

Not being super bright with spanners, I remove the guards, and remove the two spark plugs and then remove the head cover I should be able to see if the plastic tensioner guide has gone bang?

You need to take off the rocker cover (two screws) on a TC. But who knows if you will be able to spot anything untoward. Talk to Steptoe or Mikey.
