Right leg under thigh getting cooked

+1 Was very noticeable yesterday wearing Kevlar riding jeans compared to my normal Enduroguard trousers.

Also my Cat and down pipes have a significant blue temper which suggests temps in excess of 500 degrees C.

Seems a bit contradictory to me, overheated exhaust would usually be a symptom of a too-lean mixture not excessive un-burnt fuel!? :nenau

My cat has never got to "glowing red" levels.

Mine has never also, but something must be going on on some bikes..............:nenau:nenau

I Agree, or... it affects all of them but most don't notice due to thick riding gear or they only ride them twice a year to the local Starbucks!:augie

+1 for me too. I've had my bike from new since May 2016 and have only encountered the cooking right thigh issue in the past couple of weeks. I certainly didn't experience it last summer when it was much hotter here in Scotland.

I'm not sure if it is a coincidence, but I've also recently experienced the oil warning light coming on every so often only to find that there's enough oil in the sigh glass when I stop to check. The dealer reckons it may be a problem with the oil float valve (or whatever). I also mentioned the heat problem to them and they say that they have another customer with the same issue but that they haven't yet tracked down the issue!

It's in for a service in a couple of weeks time so we'll see what they come up with.

Blue also, but seems all the bikes are like that, however never seen glowing red yet, surely the O2 sensors must detect something is not right, or there is possibly a problem with the O2 sensors.
 
Ok... was out on a rideout today, done 315 miles with sunny temps around 29 degrees C

Most of my ride was quick, accellerating, overtaking, up and down the gearbox... and I didn't notice any thigh cooking.

BUT.... there were a couple of long stretches of road where the speed was fairly static, and that's when I noticed a sudden heat buildup on my right leg.

As soon as I started overtaking and cornering again, it went away.

So to me, it appears to be an airflow thing from the exhaust.

Yep like I said before all the heat is on the right side of the bike, if I city shuffle gets a tad warmer, and chinese cool cover helps that, after that when I can pick up some speed, nothing felt.
 
I fitted the GS Emotion guard and I was out on the bike yesterday 38 degrees and no difference to temp at all. As in my leg wasn’t getting any hotter so this seems to have worked for me :thumb2

Temp stayed stable all day.

Just back an hour ago, 36C outside had a ride to the city, 90 minutes, have the GS emotion guard also, right side still a little warmer than the right hand side, but normal nothing unbearable, and actually happy I got that GS emotion guard, as it sits just below the Sachs oil gold suspension canister, so obviously saves the oil getting hot in the canister, maybe for some this might be the cause of shock failure, boiling oil...:popcorn also had a look under the bike at the cat, and flapper valve area, both look brand new, only blueing is on the header downpipes, the rest of the exhaust has no blueing, happy days at the moment.
 
Thought I was experiencing this yesterday with right calf getting very hot. However, travelling in a different direction today it was the left calf, so the conclusion is that it was just the sun beating down on my black denin/kevlar jeans.

Actually now you mention it Fred, I never paid attention to where the sun was, it may have been simply that, and hence felt a tad warmer....:thumb2

I was on my Harley in shorts on Thursday (36C) and I'm sure I smelt the hairs on my legs burning.

Bringing up this old thread as i've been really feeling this heat on my R1200GS 2013 LC on these hot days - especially at Motorway/Dual carriageway speeds.

I have a Mudsling, which i have read can change the airflow causing it to cook the right leg. I have installed a Wunderlich/Puig heat deflector which helps somewhat to deflect but you still feel the build up of heat on the inside. I have recently got a high temperature exhaust blanket to go around the top half/right hand side of the catalytic converter to try and reflect the heat back/stop it radiating out and upwards so much. Not yet tested it but hoping to do so this week/weekend to see how it fairs in reducing the heat output.

It is this, if anyone is interested
 
Never had it before but today went out for a short run on the GSA and right thigh was cooking , mind you 100% better than the ktm , was stuck in traffic a few weeks ago in 27 degree heat and despite extra heat reflective material under the riders seat it cooks your b#llocks
