That really is a shame, that was a great lane. Went up there (very slowly) a couple of months back.

Pinks..

Have you got any pics - before / after? _ I don't think I've been down that one?

I spoke to the Lady who lives in the house at the top of the lane, and she said that when they were resurfacing it, the council dug up the rock steps and took them away..

And the reason why the council graded this lane?

4x4's.............. Playing offpiste at the bottom in the stream and the bank. And this is fact as i rang the council about why they had graded it.

I knew that lane as Ridgeway Steps, and it was a real challenge.Never the same two days running.(or two hours, come to that!)

A crying shame!.

Hi Greg, yep, thats the place. Unless the downpour Adam suggests is of biblical proportions its gonna be many years before its back to its former glory. There must be several feet of chippings packed on there!
One word for you Dave. Boscastle. ;)

Seriously tho, I think you will be surprised how quick water will erode that surface.

That's a real shame. But at least I'll have a chance of getting up it in one go now... :(:( (I think Todd has some pictures of me upside half way up it!)

Is that your bike Todd? Good choice. :)

BUMMER!!!!!!

I liked it just fine the way it was... except for the D1ckhead 4x4's messing it up for us good guys

A few lanes on the Isle of Man have been graded and re-surfaced this year - I missed the challenging ruts but its much better than closing them I think and a more positive attitude than the YDNP to green lanes - ie to close them.
Rest assured that the lane in those pics will rapidly wash out unless there is some well hidden drainage in there!

And taking the rock steps out was a mistake - these act as anchor bars to retain surfacing material and help shed surface water
