have a look at Riser. Just been acquired by Cardo. I used the version on my i phone yesterday and was very impressed. Similar to MRA where you can plan on a laptop/tablet etc and then log in on the phone and ride. Pro version will cost about £50 a year, but free version has most of the features I'd want. Straight or curvy roads. It re routes very quickly and is neat and not so power hungry. Best bit is you can share a link to the route and matey can log in and ride alone. Messaging within the app, and live tracking available to SWMBO...just so she gets jealous. A very cool way. A nav app cum social media app where you can connect. https://riserapp.com/feed#signup

=============

I have cut this post from an older thread, as it maybe stands better on its own.

I have had a play around with the free version of the app.

It cannot manage a journey which includes a ferry or the Chunnel. For example:

It can manage Calais to Marseille.

It cannot manage London to Calais.

It can manage London to Folkestone.

It cannot manage London to Calais via Folkestone.

I have raised the problem with Riser

I have come to the conclusion it is somewhat beyond flakey.

I asked it for Calais to Marseille. After some wheel spinning, it delivered a route. I then asked it for Calais to Marseille to Barcelona. Again, after some wheel spinning, it delivered a route. I then asked it for Calais to Barcelona, which it couldn’t deliver.

Calais to Zurich, it can do. Calais to Potes, it can do. Calais to Rome, it can’t do. Calais to Lisbon, it can’t do. Calais to Berlin, it can do. Calais to Berlin to Rome, it cannot do.

I have raised this issue with the app’s developers.

A lot less time devoted to the ‘Must have’ of ‘Where is my mate, as I want to share this awesome blast’, along with charging £50 for the privilege and lot more spent on the very basics of routing might well have been beneficial.

Fair point. But you, neither I or many others would actually want a route all in one from your point A to B...You'd break it up . I think its meant more for rides and socialising than complete trip planning, maybe? Anyhow, I won't be subscribing to any platform as long as my 590 works..

Agreed.

It’s the inconsistency of the thing that is perhaps troublesome. If it denies the existence of the Chunnel and / or cross-Channel ferries, you might wonder what else it misses.

Leaving that aside, I don’t buy into (literally) the £50 a year bolt-ons. OK they are by no means compulsory but four of you in a group for £200? Someone is trying to monetise it.

Riser has confirmed that the app cannot deal with the Chunnel or cross-Channel ferry routes. They are working on a fix.

They offered a very poor explanation as to why it can route to Berlin but not to Lisbon.
